As for the ratings, they have been in the toilet since the Open moved to Fox three years ago. Yes, they are marginally better when a ratings magnet like Brittany Lang is in contention, but they are still far worse than when they were on a major network.
It's kind of weird, considering that LPGA ratings overall are up on Golf Channel by quite a bit. The takeaway seems to be: casual fans are less interested in tuning in unless Americans are on the leaderboard (and the Open, being on network TV, probably attracted more casual fans than most women's tournaments, thus leading to its comparatively bigger ratings), but more people who genuinely like golf have started following women's golf, resulting in better overall ratings.

LMAO This coming from you. Golf is basically an individual game...yet I've never seen you write much about the INDIVIDUALS on the LPGA tour. You only write about a nationality. I can't think of times where you've written about individuals...like the really nice pros...Yani, Katherine Kirk, Aza, Belen, Pernilla, Lexi, Gerina, Tutta, Lee Ane Pace, Sandra, etc, etc. Kudos...now that pink shirt fanofseri quit...you are the funniest guy on this site. You must be kidding. Literally the whole point of my site is to give the Korean women the kind of individual coverage they simply don't get from the American press. If you are looking for stuff about Ya Ni Tseng or Katherine Kirk, this is not the place to go. But Korean ladies? Yep, here it is. I have written so much about each individual Korean golfer that it isn't even funny. A large percentage of what you know about the KLPGA golfers, you heard from me first. Go ahead, pretend that isn't true. But before you do, check seoulsisters.com, where I have literally created dozens of bios for each of these ladies. I spend something like two months updating these every year. Geez Louise... My post was never about your commitment to this site.....we all know and appreciate that you do an AMAZING job.....I have personally started a thread (previous defunct site) or have said before on more than one occasion..... the GREAT work you have done. Just like the Yank racism against the Koreans and the Neilson ratings for the USWO demonstrated it again.....Yanks only care about the Mericans and won't watch unless Yanks have a chance to win....even though golf is primarily an individual sport. Yet the Yanks don't seem to mind Rory, Rahm, Adam Scott, BEEF, etc. I like razzing you cause you have the similar Yank racism too....but in an opposite perspective....you have said before that if the Sista's aren't contending....you won't watch the LPGA or cheer for others. Everyone on this site like the Sista's...but if they aren't contending...... they'll still watch the event.

I was also amazed at the size of the galleries at Lancaster, both by attending the early rounds, and just watching the weekend.
Very nearly PGA size crouds. USGA should take area into account in addition to course. LPGA does better in secondary markets.

I am not looking forward to the galleries getting any better next year for the USWO at Shoal Creek golf course. I hope I am wrong, but don't think so. I guess they have women members now.

Agree...it will be crickets at Shoal Creek...especially if Mariah Stackhouse is the 54 hole leader....just sayin. Unless Mike Davis and Diana fixed and rig the USWO to have weekend leaders of Lexi & Wiesy...no one will watch.

Let's face it...the USWO is a JOKE....the event looks and feels like an average LPGA event...no one attends and no one watches it on TV....(Lancaster was the exception)....yet the women were playing for the biggest purse by a large margin.
The LPGA pros and players should be kissing their male counterparts....they are playing for a $5M purse due to the profits generated by the USO and male dominated USGA membership fees.
And if not for GOAT #2....we wouldn't have a bunch of whiny pink shirts who only need to play 15 times a year.
Watching the USWO is like watching a Superbowl with 5,000 fans in the stadium....oh wait...I just described the Grey Cup.

Hey So Yeon I have an 11:15 tee time tomorrow at Wildfire, Faldo course. Golfnow cheap as chips. Palmer's greens are all sandy. If not tomorrow another day for sure. Would be an honor to play with you. We can talk LPGA.

If I enjoy watching mainly when the storylines I'm most interested in following are advanced, why is that any less legit than someone who watches every tournament no matter what? Secondly, I follow three different tours every week, plus any additional amateur events of note. I just don't have the time to watch everything. If I'm busy, I don't watch anything or just highlights. If players I don't care for are contending at the LPGA event, I'll focus on the KLPGA or JLPGA that week.

I recall seeing a graphic which clearly showed how much the US Women's Open ratings dipped once Fox took over; they were liked halved from what they were before. Yes, 2014 was a big year because of Wie, but even if you look at the other years before that, which admittedly had smaller ratings than 2014, they still were much better than 2015 - 2017.
All the evidence suggests you need to put these tournaments into secondary markets and the crowds will come. It's not that North America does not like women's golf. It's that North Americans in major cities don't like it when they can choose from ten other activities to do that weekend.

I started Round One today but it will take I while. I think I will condense the Tuesday and Wednesday practice rounds into one report and do it last. I already dropped many notes in earlier posts from the practice rounds, but did not include which player walked to the 13th tee and blew kisses to another player who was walking up the 12th fairway.Where is it?

Caddie David Jones guiding Sung Hyun Park to victory. Colin didn't work out for her. After In Gee dumped David he was with who? Putt do you remember? It all started for David with Na Yeon Choi at the 2013 British Open when she took a local caddie and the rest is LPGA history. The dude's has a really thick UK Accent. He said something to me at the putting green at the 2016 U. S. Open like " You should look to get a job." "Pardon?" Then he said it again but I couldn't understand him. "A job? Like with the LPGA? Is that what he said?" I didn't want to be rude and say pardon again. Anyway a J.O.B? Wa wa wa work?? No way son, I'm retired. I don't know how she can understand him. Those english dudes from north country can really eat their words.
