If the name Hisako Higuchi doesn't ring any bells, she's better known as Chako Higuchi, who dipped her toe into the LPGA waters during the '70s. She was the JLPGA's leading money winner 11 times during the first 12 years of the tour's existence (1968-79). She won a ridiculous 69 times on the JLPGA...not the greatest competition back in the day, but she also won the 1977 LPGA Championship at Bay Tree Golf Plantation in Myrtle Beach, SC. Never heard of this golf course before, so I looked it up...has been closed since 2006! From a 2010 article on local real estate market collapse: The 529 acres has gone to seed with saplings growing on fairways and debris obstructing cart paths. A partially-collapsed results board faces a bare concrete foundation, the only remnant of the course's clubhouse. Liquor bottles litter the area and graffiti is scrawled on buildings. Gormley says that the former course has become a hangout for rowdy teenagers.Nice vintage article on Chako and three other Japanese pros trying the LPGA in 1972: www.si.com/vault/1972/07/17/612561/land-of-the-rising-daughters****************** Chako played the Thu. pro-am with defending champ Ayaka Watanabe: ************** Last year, this tournament had six amateurs in a field of less than 100, which seems high to me. This year, they have eleven amateurs in a field of 96. Why so many? ************** Bo Mee on Thursday... She has been seen testing Honma's new TW737 450 driver.

With three top-tens in her last six starts, her long slump may be over. Sky Kim was one stroke out of the lead thru nine holes, then reeled off four straight bogeys. BML never caught fire. I had a feeling Ha Neul might win this one, so I decided this time not to curse her by posting anything before the final round.
Oh well, that didn't work!
Congrats to Jiyai, though. Always cool to see her collecting the hardware!
