Round 4 Congratulations to Ariya. She was just unstoppable this week; it feels like she made about two mistakes the final three rounds. I pretty much decided that if In Gee wasn't able to catch her in the first three holes that she wasn't going to win, so once that didn't happen, I mainly focused on how In Gee was playing rather than the trophy. I thought she was getting close to her start of season form, which was exciting to see! She managed four rounds in the 60s this week (so did Sei Young), but just was going against a player who was on a course she felt supremely comfortable on. In Gee really didn't make too many mistakes. I think she had one bogey all weekend. On Sunday she hit 17 greens. Her putting was a little off on Sunday compared to her first three days, but at least part of that might have been due to hitting so many greens. It also felt like she was not hitting the ball as close as Jutanugarn most of the time, but it might have felt that way because it was more imperative for In Gee to make birdies in order to catch up. In any event, In Gee would have needed a 64 to tie Ariya, which is a big ask for a final round. Still, she was pretty good, she made no big mistakes, she just didn't have the explosiveness she would have needed to take this. All in all a great week for her! Keep smiling, kid! Sei Young did outplay Ariya on Sunday, but was too far back to have any real chance to catch her. But Kim managed a few scintillating shots, including that one early on that landed about fifteen feet right of the flag and snapped back to about a foot. How did she do that? She had at least one other stiff iron that I recall. As for the rest, good week for Chella. Mirim and Amy were just off a top ten, and Mi Hyang Lee made a nice move to get to 14th. Ha Na Jang alas shot a 75, which cost her a top ten, but still not a bad week for her in her comeback. Sisters Hwaiting!

Can Ariya win next week again and secure a second hat trick in one year? We'll see. Hopefully, other LPGA players will stand up and be counted. Right now Ariya is winning on courses that fit her game. Lydia, however can fit her game to any course. That's why she may be number one for quite awhile. She has rounds where her putting and short game has been a little off. But she very seldom make a habit of it. For anyone to take over the number one spot from her, had better bring their "A" game every week. To even beat Lydia's "B" game.

Lydia will not relinquish her No. 1 position anytime soon, only because of her overwhelming lead of 14.85 to 9.23. Ariya needs to win a major and 4 consecutive tournaments to even have a chance of overtaking Lydia. But I don't see any upside for Lydia, because her mental advantages will start to disappear once she approaches 20 and there are more and more younger players. I don't think she will be better than 5 and 25 when her career is done. Players like So Yeon is so talented, she can have a run and have a better career than Lydia when all is said and done.

Ariya said that at the beginning of the week that the course didn't suit her....but her English is suspect and we don't know if she meant she didn't know how her knee would hold up.

Since her 2011 USWO...she has demonstrated she can close it out of what many expected from her with only two other LPGA events....SYR is still 11 LPGA wins behind The Wonder Kid....including a major.....is SYR gonna play as long as Juli or Dame Laura. OK....yes....Lydia could have a career ending injury next year or be faced with a Yani like golf mental breakdown....nothing lasts forever.

Did you see Ariya winning 5 out 10 LPGA tournaments including a major in April after her ANA disappointments? You didn't but I did. Go back and check those posts.

Are we talkin about SYR or Ariya?
SYR has had 5 years to demonstrate she can LIGHT IT UP....but she hasn't demonstrated it....yes SYR is talented.....but just can't close it enough. It's just like Yani has in the same time frame....yet to demonstrate she can come back to her glory days.

Like So Yeon, Ariya under performed between 2011 and early 2016, but the talent was never in doubt. So Yeon under performed between 2011 USWO and now, but all it takes is a spark and she can get rolling.

So Yeon is a stylish, elegant, excellent player, Ariya is a different beast, a player with a game that can dominate who is just getting warmed up. I think So Yeon's age will start to work against her as well, Inbee was 24 ish when she caught fire, So Yeon is already 26. Not that 26 is old by any means but the young player production line isn't going to slow down and wait for her.. Ariya was 15 in 2011 and didn't turn pro until '12, it's a bit harsh to say she was under performing then!

She caught fire after 26 and the rest is history. So Yeon doesn't have the same power as Ariya; noboday does, Lexi included. But So Yeon is a great ball striker, including power and precision. So Yeon would have at least 10 more wins by now if she miss less of her 6 footers. So Yeon may never catch her fire; but the potential is there. Golf is a strange game, the difference between winning and losing isn't that much. It's all in putting, especially putts of less than 10 feet. I'm pretty sure you expected more out of Ariya before she caught fire in May of this year.

I think So Yeon can still win if she get her putting fixed. When she came on tour she was an aggressive putter. That caused her to three putt, on occasion , because of two many five and six footers coming back. Even then she stayed around 29 t0 30 putts per round. Somebody convinced her to start changing things. She changed putters and how she approached putting. Right now she looks way to mechanical. I went back and looked back at on of her tournaments a couple of years ago. When she was ranked no. 6. She did not keep her head nearly as still as she do now. Right after she struck the ball her head followed it, like most good putters do. However her body stayed still and didn't come off the putt too soon.
