champs.usga.org/EntryForms/womens_am_2016.pdfWill Hannah O’Sullivan be here to defend her title? I hope so. Some of you assume she’ll turn pro before August, and you might be right if she tears up CordeValle. This one runs Aug. 1–7 at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, PA and I’ll be there for part of it. A series of 18-hole qualifiers have started this week (see link above). I wonder if this course will remind me of Lancaster CC, since both were designed by William Flynn. When they played the ’76 USWO at RGGC, Judy Rankin refused to use a high bridge on the par-3 14th hole and walked the long way to the green...the par-3 8th at LCC was just like that! Fascinating article on the bellyaching and carnage of the ’76 USWO: www.si.com/vault/1976/07/19/615899/a-mountain-of-troubleNon-USGA tournament website: rggc2016.com/https://www.instagram.com/p/BF69k04piFj

I believe Hannah will turn pro after the USWO. I may be wrong, but I think that she would not be able to play if she gives up her amateur status and turn pro prior to USWO. She is invited because of her US Am win, so as a pro she would not qualify, unless they give her a special exemption.

Thanks that course looks perfect. I love Big Mama, that's an amazing article. Sandra Palmer is at Arroyo Trabuco, near me. She teaches some pros and lots of dreamers.

Based on the schedule...where would her 6 invites occur....Evian, CWO & Manulife. I think she'd only get 1 invite max on the Asian swing. Is Q school registration soon?

Where did the "Big Mama" handle come from? See below... blog.rggc.org/2013/06/08/joanne-carner-visits-rg/JoAnne Carner visits RG Posted on June 8, 2013 by richcow JoAnne Carner returned to Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield on Memorial Day. She was joined by Meghan Bolger Stasi, four time US Women’s Mid-Amateur Champion, and legendary local golfer Liz Haines, of Merion. This was the first time she returned to Rolling Green since defeating Sandra Palmer in the 1976 Women’s US Open. JoAnne Carner and Meghan Bolger Stasi at RGUpon her arrival, Ms. Carner was presented with a plaque commemorating her victory and was made an honorary member of RG. The membership was excited to see her and she played her usual steady game. Rolling Green was the third stop on her trip, first playing Pine Valley and Merion. Ms. Carner earned her nickname at that 1976 US Women’s Open when Sandra Palmer said, “I am going to beat you today Big Mamma” on the first tee. Carner went on to win the 18 hole play scoring a 76 against Palmer’s 78. Both had scored 8 over par for the first four rounds. We asked her if she remembered the course and she commented that it came back to her as soon as she stepped on the tee. Overall, it was a huge treat for the members, many of whom watched her play back in 1976. She stayed for lunch and spoke to several members, along with head golf professional, Mike Rugg. *********** Crude highlight clip from '76 USWO playoff:

I think Carner was a great amateur golfer. I really didn't watch it much until Julie Inkster came on the tour.
I also remember watching Michelle because of her totally great hat, she also looked like she had forty teeth.

The USGA posted next Monday & Tuesday’s groups for the medal rounds, which you can find here: www.usga.org/championships/2016/u-s--women-s-amateur.htmlIt's too bad the WBO is this week, or Hannah O'Sullivan might be defending her crown at Rolling Green GC. Obviously, with an influx of college players, this field will be much stronger than the Girls Junior last week, but I doubt any of the newcomers are better than Eun Jeong Seong and Hye Jin Choi. I should add Sierra Brooks to my "must see" list...shooting four-under in Japan last week got my attention. I'll definitely be there for the Wednesday Round of 64 matches...not sure about Tuesday or Thursday.

I guess O'Sullivan has a been there, done that attitude. Instead of defending, she is going all the way to England to play in a less prestigious tournament with no paycheck.

Yup ...................and Amy not playing makes no sense neither....I guess she's getting tired of gagging it on Sunday at a major.

Muni near some swanky retail establishments on W. 57th Street...I hope she's trying a few practice putts on the carpet this week. She and several other big names will be teeing off Tuesday afternoon...I think I'll play golf in South Jersey early in the AM, then cross the Delaware to RGCC in the PM. I better practice my GO CHINA GO cheer. https://www.instagram.com/p/BIY8gxEgHwc

The Muni Instagram account deserves more than 5,151 followers. So are you one of the 5,151 grey haired old guy followers/stalkers? Maybe I should make it 5,152....I'm sure she'd instantly accept the Smiling Buddha as a follower. Go China Go!
