Round 2
Why isn't In Gee in the final group? She shot the same score as Sharp but finished hours ahead of her. Shouldn't she be in the final group with Ryu and Thompson? I'd like to think there's some logic to the pairings, but it seems there isn't.
Whatever, this is a great leaderboard. Yes, the overexposed three are lurking, but though Thompson is in the lead, she seemed to grab her back every other shot today, and hit a fair number of drives wildly. If she keeps that up, she is going to have a tough time defending.
Meanwhile, In Gee, So Yeon and the resurgent Q Baek are all near the top of the leaderboard, and Amy Yang, Minjee and Sei Young are not far back. I was glad to see them mention So Yeon's length the other day. I've wondered if she's been bopping it farther ever since I saw her paired with NYC earlier this year. They always were roughly the same length, but Ryu was pummeling the ball 20 - 30 yards past Choi most holes. I suspect her work on her game has included increasing her distance, which, if that gets combined with her usual overall excellence, might be the key to taking her game to the next level.
I also get the feeling that In Gee is on a mission. I think she was a bit disappointed that she didn't play better in Seattle. I would LOVE her to get a win before her title defense in a few weeks. Let's see if she can set herself up for one here.
For Q Baek, just a top five would be an immense result. We haven't gotten a chance to see her at all this week despite her being so high on the leaderboard. I'm looking forward to seeing what she's doing right (hopefully she can keep up the good work the next few days).
Go Sisters!!!!
