Round One of medal play hasn't finished yet...Round Two is tomorrow and the top-64 advance to match play. Sung Hung of the Philippines leads at -6 thru 14 holes. Pano is +3 thru 15 and Shepherd is +3 thru 16.
Sophia Bae of Norwood, NJ (part of a region that is Asia Central for girl golfers) opened with -4, 68. She was originally in the field for the USWA qualifier I attended last week, but didn't show up.

Saso wiped out everyone with a 132, -12.
One group is left on the course...if they do nothing crazy on their last hole, then 62 players are a lock for match play. Then they'll immediately start a playoff with thirteen players battling for the final two spots.
Shepherd made it easily at -1...BTW, she botched her USWA qualifier last week, getting a worthless 2nd alternate.
Caris Kim (right) will be in the playoff, shooting 79-71. Her looper is her sister and LPGAer Lauren Kim.

They are playing the 2012 Jr. on the USGA 24-7 streaming channel.
Minjee was down 3 to Allison Lee thru 30 before coming back to win.
Since Inbee won in 2002 players from ROK have won 6 and players from the USA have won 8.

During the playoff, Caroline Hodge scored the only birdie at the par-3 16th, so she advanced to match play. Seven players continued to the par-4 17th hole where Ainsley Cowart and Kaylee Sakoda made birdies, so those two will play for the 64th spot at the par-4 18th hole on Wednesday morning.

Sakoda won the 64th spot during the Wed. AM playoff before getting squashed 6 & 4 by Saso. Pano and Shepherd are out. Is there any point following this event anymore?
One-third of Team NJ was eliminated, Megha Ganne (below)...Sophia Bae and Yoona Kim are still alive.

Saso flattened two more players to make it to Friday's quarterfinals. There are no Koreans left from any side of the Pacific Ocean.

Big upset as the Philippina Terminator blew her circuits and lost to Jillian Bourdage (never heard of her before). In the other bracket, Angelina Ye defeated Nicole Whiston.
Whiston is an incoming freshman at U. of Tennessee...I remember two coaches from UT following her at Ridgewood CC in 2016 while she got squashed by Hye Jin Choi. Older sis Waverly Whiston was also at Ridgewood and she'll be playing her junior year at UT in the fall.

'Excellent final round. Lei was three up after 18 holes, but the gap closed. Lei took a one up lead on the par 5 15th, but gave it back on the 16th. She birdied 17, and closed it out on the 36th hole when her opponent missed a 5 ft birdie putt.
