Vare Trophy Race: Ariya's locked up the trophy. Jin Young Ko and Minjee Lee is in virtual tie for 2nd. Brooke leads In Gee by 3 shots for fourth place. Glenna Vare had one of my favorite golf swings. Complete lift of the front heel and onto her tip toe and then slamming the heel to start the downswing. Not sure if she made Chamblee’s golf swing book but she should have. She beat none other than Patty Berg for her 6th US Am after having two kids.

All stats are important, but none more than scoring average.
It feels like Ariya Jutanugarn, Minjee Lee and Jin Young Ko are the best players this season; and the stat confirms it.
Using par 70 as reference instead of the normal par 72, we have:
Ariya -59 Jin Young Ko -31 Minjee Lee -33
Brooke Henderson -4 In Gee Chun 0
Without a doubt, the Holy Trinity of Ariya, Jin Young and Minjee are in a class of their own.
Other observation, wins are overrated. Sung Hyun Park is lucky to have 3 wins while Ariya, Jin Young and Minjee are unlucky not to have more.

The object of a golf tournament is to win it and you can increase your chances of winning by pulling off difficult shots. That style of play doesn’t get you the Vare trophy every year.

Aces, hole outs, long chip ins and 50 feet putts are luck; hitting to 10-20 ft. of the hole and making half the putts are skill and talent.

Those broadcasters made it sound like The New Ko was on a suicide watch on Sunday...all she did was shoot 73. I didn't follow the entire broadcast...did I miss something?

Luck plays a role, but I believe it plays less of a role in golf than for most other sports. 72 holes over four days tends to even things out. Luck may have played more of a role in SHP's weather-shortened win but she might have won it anyway.
However, SHP made some critical shots under intense pressure during her wins this year. It's what she's known for. Other players may be steadier throughout the four days, but I'll take Namdalla when it's crunch time on the final holes.

Despite being sick and sore, and a killing double bogey, Jin Young was still the top Korean in the event and has established herself as being one of the best Koreans on tour this year, even as a rookie. . . Roles Rankings has made Jin Young #10 in their current rankings, only Sung Hyun, So Yeon, and In Bee ahead of her. . .

Ariya won two titles in playoff; I can't remember what happened in the other one. At the US Women's Open, she is darn lucky Hyo Joo Kim didn't hit her shot in the middle of the green on the second playoff hole, because Ariya, after that terrible approach, certainly should have lost that one. At Kingsmill, she was fortunate to have a playoff hole that set up so well for a long hitter; In Gee was going to struggle on that kind of a hole. I'm just saying that if you are going to diss Park, be real. Park played brilliantly in the KPMG playoff, even if she probably should have lost in regulation had So Yeon not hit that dire tee shot on 17.

I'm not a huge Park fan, but when she is playing at the top of her game I'll admit that she is almost unbeatable. It's like she's in a different league from everyone else. And she isn't having to make thirty foot par putts like Ariya sometimes has to. Namdalla's problem is that when she isn't at the top of her game, she can be really terrible. Feast or famine.

She started on fire and then hit into the water on 8, took a double bogey, and then her demeanour went south. Really didn't look like she was having much fun. I think she had a cold earlier in the week, and her neck looked to be bothering her.

The most important stat is the win. Back in the day, Dan Marino had all the passing stats, Joe Montana had the rings.

Sung Hyun Park is 25, she's won 5 LPGA tournaments including 2 majors. She also won 7 times at KLPGA in 2016. Amazing stat, yes; but it paled in comparison with Yani Tseng who won 15 LPGA tournaments including 5 majors after she just turned 23. A player looks clutch and invincible when she wins but it's a different story when the winning stops. I'm not saying Sung Hyun will fade like Yani. But a player who wins with mediocre scoring average is winning without good fundamentals; and it won't last long.
