Stock Watch: LPGA raises some Q-uestionsLPGA Q Series (-4%): The LPGA’s new version of Q-School gets underway this week, and the women’s college golf coaches are not happy about it: The top 5 players from last season’s individual rankings (Jennifer Kupcho, Maria Fassi, Patty Tavatanakit, Lilia Vu, Lauren Stephenson) automatically earned a spot in the final stage, guaranteeing at least some Symetra status and likely a full LPGA card, if they finish inside the top 45. The LPGA is cherry-picking the best from the college ranks, even if they’re not yet ready to make the jump.

Women’s golf nets sixth-place finishWith First-Team All-Americans Lauren Stephenson and Kristen Gillman out of the lineup, it was the first time the Crimson Tide finished a tournament outside the top five since October 2016. The team’s three-day aggregate total of 903 (39-over-par) was 48 shots behind eventual champion and event host Texas.

The LPGA Tour Q Series in Pinehurst is like the Women’s North & South All-Stars2016 Champion Kristen Gillman Gillman (shown above) has been a star in the making for a while now. She won the 2014 U.S. Women’s Amateur at 16 and later won the North & South, becoming the first player to win both since Danielle Kang. While Gillman has long been a star at Alabama, she won her second U.S Women’s Amateur in 2018, becoming the first player to do that since…Danielle Kang. (Kang won the LPGA Tour event this week – is that a sign for Gillman?) Gillman played well at Stage II last week to earn her way into the field. She’s playing as an amateur.

awhsonLucky 6 is in a no-win situation; nobody will be surprised if she wins but heads will roll if she doesn't.
