A Senior Moment, courtesy Larry the Looper:
---------------------------------
At the US Senior Women’s Open Qualifier in Armonk NY, the second group of Tish Certo and Wendy Modic made a wrong turn (actually didn’t follow the cart path) and went from the 11th green to the 15th and teed off. DOH! What to do? Add two, walk across the street, play the correct tee.

In case anyone cares, it starts tomorrow. FS1 will carry it Saturday and Sunday, 4-6 PM EST.
No Koreans in the field...the only potential one I could think of who is age 50+ would be Pearl Sinn-Bonanni...her name is not on the entrant list, although she would have been exempt from qualifying. She was head coach for women's golf at Cal State Fullerton in recent years, but is no longer in that position. One unexpected name in the field is JLPGA boss Hiromi Kobayashi (age 55). She won four times on the LPGA tour (three of them in playoffs). I don't know how much she plays these days, but played with Lexi a couple years back at the Salonpas pro-am.
UPDATE:
This local newspaper is covering the event:
Article includes video of Chicago GC:

After seeing so many aerial photos of CGC I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks from the ground (on TV, as I can't attend or I would in a heartbeat.)
The teeing grounds aren't elevated an inch so the fairway bunkers provide maximum obstruction and intimidation.

Was watching a preview of this on Golf Central the other night. Tim Rosaforte kept going on and on about how interesting the 'characters' from that era were, and how it just wasn't the same now. There seemed to be a strongly implied rebuke of the global nature of the tour in favor of a bunch of chain smoking Americans (he kept mentioning cigarettes for some reason).
I found it a bit annoying and unnecessary, but tbh, I'm loving the global nature of the tour now, so whatever.

FYI, Nancy Lopez is not playing (recent knee surgery).
I didn't see the Rosaforte video...I have no idea what he's talking about. I can name at least seven or eight smokers from all the LPGA tournaments I've attended going back to 2005. Who was smoking during his "golden era?" Where are the pictures? Here's a well-known pic of J. Carner in 2004, but that was long after her prime.

The top-50 plus ties will make the cut from a field of 120. It's probably good that they won't televise the first two rounds...I can envision some of these women who might be a tad rusty or over-the-hill posting horrendous scores. I don't want to see them get embarrassed on TV, although the course is 6082 yards, par-73.

This one is undated, but it must have been taken in late 1974 or early 1975.

Not sure why that's something to be nostalgic about... *shrug*

Bravo to Big Mama Carner for shooting her age (79)...however, as I feared, several of the elderly LPGAers (Little, Dickinson, Palmer, Britz) got murdered. Kobayashi (+9, 82) might be back at her desk two days earlier than planned. However, the current cut is +6 and will probably go higher.
Betsy King (78, +5)

No surprise, the morning groups have pushed up the cut line to +8...the bloodletting continues. The course is 6277 today and 6279 yesterday, about 200 yards longer than advertised.
The field is only 120...the typical USGA championship field is 156. My guess is that they were worried about finding enough "qualified" players. The applicant pdf form is kinda funny...if you won something anywhere at any time and you have a pulse, you're probably exempt!
Danielle Ammaccapane in Round Two...wow, she's played a lot better than I would have expected, 75-71 (Even). It helps not to have B.J. Wie around to annoy you. I saw her ten years ago at Upper Montclair CC (grouped with Ai and NYC) and she looked totally washed up...I paced off one of her drives at 192.

You are correct in this example, Patricia Ehrhart(A), and she is in great shape to make it work, too. Unfortunately, she seems to be the rare exception in this field.
******
So far, I'm unsuccessful in finding another pic of Betsy King from this event...she looks pretty good in that pic I posted earlier...is that a nasty surgical scar near her right elbow? She mesmerized me about 30 years ago...the big '80s hair and what a game...she threw away her swing in the early 80s and came back with a devastating new one...no one else could hit the ball higher in her prime. Oh, and kudos to her for making Patty Sheehan sob at the 1990 USWO.

OK, I've had about enough of this. I'm heading back to the Samantha Thavasa thread.

Ya Ehrhart’s outfit is worthy of the occasion.
I thought Big Mama looked great too.
There are some that look like my old mans bowling shirts from the 80s

Sorry, Joanne, but my favorite Big Mama is still Sun Ju Ahn.

Saturday's FS1 broadcast was moved up to 2:30 PM EST.
I looked up Yuko Saito (T-5, +1). She has two wins on Japan's big tour and her best season was in 2009 (at age 42) when she was 16th on the money list.
Eriko Gejo (T-45, +11) looks well-preserved at age 51...her best season on Japan's big tour was in 2006 when she was 55th on the money list.
