Excerpts from 3/28/1988 AP story in Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Ku won the tournament yesterday by saving par with a 12-foot, uphill putt on the 18th hole.
"I felt very good about it," Ku said through an interpreter. "I was just thinking of trying to make it, but if not, I knew I would go sudden death."
Ku might have known it was to be her day: On number 13, she sliced her drive toward the out-of-bounds markers, but it hit a garbage can and bounced back into safe territory.
"I didn't see it happen, but somebody told me I should keep it (the can) for a souvenir," she said.
Ku obit with a lot of details about her: www.nytimes.com/2013/07/31/sports/golf/while-parks-quest-unfolds-a-trailblazer-dies.html
