When did golf channel first acknowledge college golf existed? After they got the broadcast rights? I don't know the history but its covered so enthusiastically and so suddenly that it's creeping me out a little.

Yeah, would that they covered the LPGA so enthusiastically... It's weird to be sure.

What's weird and creepy about it ? Golf Channel is not a charity, they are in it to make a buck.
GC has so much air time to fill on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. So instead of endlessly re-running Tin Cup , Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius, etc, they now have hours of free programming. (Assuming my speculation is correct, that Buick is helping to pay for the production cost.)
I have to admit, it is very compelling television. The raw emotions these girls display after a win or loss, it is like a mini Ryder Cup.
It won't become the college football playoff or March Madness, but with TV coverage now, I hope this event continues to grow.
Ya...the NCAA is good stuff.....we should be grateful to see this...no way we saw this kind of coverage years ago...just a 5 minute recap from Steve Berkowski back then. The male and female NCAA's were great last year on a baked out Eugene G&CC.
They should bring back some coverage of the Curtis Cup, Walker Cup, etc. I really enjoyed watching the 2006 Curtis Cup at Bandon...the Yank team was stacked.
I also really enjoyed watching the Asia Pac Am the last couple of years...especially when the FAKE Chinese guy won it. ESPN2 & TSN2 covered it.....maybe on GC too. Love seeing the Green Jacket blue bloods showing off their expense accounts.

There must be a sponsor involved, because I can't see how there is suddenly this huge interest in college golf in the last two - three years. Whether it's compelling is beside the point; that never influenced their decisions before.
The whole industrial complex is "all-in" on it at the same time. Just curious what the back story is. I think I've heard Lisa Cornwall say "maria stackhouse!" 100 times in the last year and I rarely watch G.C.
Didn't she have an interview with Tom last year where he asked her, "How do you feel about xxx" and she replied, coyly, "Well, Tom, what do you think I feel about it?" He was somewhat surprised by that response IIRC. Might have been Grant Boone, I can't recall, but I think it was Tom.

Yeah, that was Tom. That guy has the greatest job in the world...jet-setting all over -- all expenses paid -- playing in pro-ams every week, and taking players out to dinner in a brand new Kia Cadenza. What a life.
