In a recent interview at Terra Lago (below), Bo Mee Lee said the word "Olympics"...which is insane...she'd have to jump over three or four Koreans in just five or six months...and not get passed by NYC. But, if she has a miracle in the works, it MUST start with a win at the ANA...which is not a crazy thought.

The Olympics is a meaningless exhibition for the men. No professional player would take a gold medal over a green jacket. For the Korean women, it appears to be the opposite. SYK would rather win a gold medal than the US Open. The way the Olympics is set up, it will be very easy for the player with the hot hand to win Olympic gold. There will only be ten to 15 really good players in the event.

There will only be ten to 15 really good players in the event. For some of the US men, maybe, but players from other countries have said they value the Olympics over anything else. The perfect example is Fabian Gomez. www.vavel.com/en-us/golf-en/592662-fabian-gomez-values-olympics-above-all-else.htmlDanny Lee has said some similar things, as well. I think a lot of the American men are bitter that they won't be making the team because of the "4 per country" rule, but those who are looking like locks appear to be excited about the possibility. Spieth casually mentioned that he was gearing up for "five majors, plus a Ryder Cup" in an interview earlier this season, and Rory has gone through the headache of picking a country to represent when he could just sit the event out. It is an exhibition, but I think the pride of winning an Olympic gold medal is eventually going to trump those other feelings. I just wish it wasn't in Rio. I have 2 to 1 odds Spieth wins a medal, and 3 to 1 odds somebody contracts the zika virus.

Leave it to Olympics to screw up a good thing www.record-bee.com/article/NQ/20160226/SPORTS/160229896The women’s issue is just as glaring. Currently there are seven Korean women ranked in the world top 12. Only four will get into the Olympics, including Inbee Park, Sei Young Kim, So Yeon Ryu and Hyo Joo Kim. Number nine Ha Na Jang, No. 10 In Gee Chun and No. 12 Amy Yang are outside the Olympic cut line. The Americans have two women within the top four, namely Stacy Lewis and Lexi Thompson, and Cristie Kerr is just inside the cut line at No. 14, but that will be the extent of Team USA from the female perspective. Others such as Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel, Allison Lee, Jessica Korda, and Michelle Wie are barely outside the top 15 and do not qualify for the Olympics. Golf returns to the Olympics for the first time in 112 years. Yet even with the influence of the leadership levels of the American PGA Tour and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the Olympic golf tournament will be little more than a convoluted exhibition. Sure Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlory and Jason Day will be there, but five-time major winner Phil Mickelson who is the 20th ranked golfer in the world, won’t. Three-time major winner Vijay Singh will be there, even though he is a senior golfer and even though his world ranking is 242 places beyond Phil. It’s shades of the Jamaican bobsleigh team. It’s bad enough that the Olympic leadership committee is stained with years of taint. It’s bad enough that the American and European PGA Tours had to adjust their schedules for Olympic golf, similar to the way the National Hockey League needs to adjust every four years. It’s bad enough that the zika virus will be a big-time news issue in August in Rio. However, the biggest travesty of all is that we won’t be able to see the top 60 men and top 60 women compete for Olympic gold. In the end, that gold medal may seem to be a lot more like an aluminum one.

IMO...no pro athlete should participate in the Olympics...that's why it's a commercial exhibition every 4 years. But it was exciting to host the 2010 winter Olympics here in Van City.
Even though the Olympics take a back seat to golf's real or fake majors....I think many will tune in....especially if Tom Abbott is working the coverage.

In the end, that gold medal may seem to be a lot more like an aluminum one. Actually it is on par with all other Olympic events, where each nations has a limited amount of places, regardless of their strength in that event. As I said before, the worst marathon runner in Kenya can probably beat the rest of the world, but that shouldn't mean we should see a field full of Kenyans. Nor should we see the field of 100m sprint made up entirely of Jamaicans. If you want to see the best players competing against each other, we have the Majors for that. You have to look at the Olympics from a different perspective. It's kind of like the Solheim Cup, where even though most of the top players are not in it. But it is still "enjoyable" in its own right.

Also, if it was simply just the top 60 women, we wouldn't have this exciting race to make the Korean team that we are having now.

Agree fourway. If you rightfully include the challenge and drama of making the team the olympics can take Major status, IMO. Especially considering that part of making the team includes the ceremony stuff and representing your country etc. Can't wait to see how bad some of the golf uniforms are.
