What follows is a quick and tidy recap of the final PakPicker contest of 2014. Sixteen contestants took part this week, and all but four had five scoring selections apiece in the final standings. In many cases it was the same five: Lydia, Michelle, So Yeon, Stacy and Shanshan.
In order of popularity are this week's selections:16: Lydia Ko (winner), Inbee Park (never a factor), So Yeon Ryu (T7) 15: Stacy Lewis (T9) 14: Shanshan Feng (T12), Suzann Pettersen 13: Michelle Wie (T5) 12: Chella Choi 11: Karrie Webb 8: Azahara Munoz 7: Brittany Lincicome, Pornanong Phatlum, Lexi Thompson 5: Mirim Lee 4: Cristie Kerr 3: Na Yeon Choi, Paula Creamer, Ilhee Lee, Anna Nordqvist 2: Mi Jung Hur, Jessica Korda, Morgan Pressel (4th) 1: Eun Hee Ji, In Kyung Kim (T9), Lee Anne Pace (WD), Ayako Uehara As I said all but four of us had five scoring selections this week. Two had just four but one of them, shungkim, had those four close to where they finished (he alone picked Lydia to win) so he's all the way up in 4th place with just a quarter point to either side of him, and he had Shanshan as his first alternate so in the remote chance that another selection WD or he whiffed on one he might have done even better.
Speaking of whiffs I give you the Verdant one, who failed to pick Stacy and wound up all the way in 14th. That would have approximated The Constructivist's fate had I chosen to pass over his #8 selection of "Lewis" and not given him the benefit of the doubt that he intended to select the winner of the Vare Trophy, the money list title and Rolex Player of the Year rather than Amelia. Considering what he had to deal with this past week in western New York a minor faux pax is understandable.OK, now that I've scared all of you witless, particularly those of us like myself here in New England who haven't yet seen snow this season I will tell you that TC's placement on the podium this week did not have an impact on the season-long race for the Happy Fan Cup. GD Smyth finished T10 this week so with Elf's 5th place position he pips GD (no, not G-Dragon; I mean OUR GD) for the virtual $1million prize. A different kind of prize, if you could call it that, awaits the Saint as with just three scoring selections this week he cops his record setting eighth wooden spoon of the season. We don't have a promotion/relegation system going here at PakPicker Central so he still has a playing card for next season - should he wish to accept it.
Lastly it is with great humility that I share with you this week's winner, the only PakPicker with six scoring selections. As I was one of just two contestants to have selected Morgan I become the last to retire a virtual trophy this season with my third win.
On behalf of the Committee I wish to thank everyone for their participation in 2014 and hope that the new season (which is just two months away!) will bring more contestants and more excitement.PAKPICKER STANDINGS
