Heads up! On Tuesday, 12/15 (repeated Wednesday, 12/16),, the PGA of America will have a hour long Year in Review program. Included will be a review of Inbee's win at the KPMG, as that is now a PGA of America event. Set your DVRs!
PGA of America 2015 Year in Review
Debut: Tues., Dec. 15 - 7 p.m. EST; Re-Airings: Wed. Dec. 16 at 1 a.m. and 1 p.m. EST
This one-hour program chronicles the PGA of America’s year of championships.
Hosted by David Marr III, the program opens with a recap of the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, where Colin Montgomerie successfully defended the first major championship of his career, a four-stroke triumph on the Pete Dye Course at French Lick (Ind.) Resort.
From there, the review explores Inbee Park’s sixth major championship victory, which came in the landmark KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She closed with a bogey-free 68 to coast to a five-shot win over Sei Young Kim at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York. Park, like Montgomerie, defended her title, but for a record-tying second time. The sixth major of Park’s career also established a new record among Asian-born players in America.
Although no title was defended, Jason Day’s initial major championship victory in the 97th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, was no less spectacular or historic. Day surged past Jordan Spieth, who was bidding to become the first player to win all three U.S.-based majors in a calendar year. Day’s three-stroke victory in a memorable duel culminated in him becoming the first player to post a 20-under-par total in a major championship.
The PGA Championship coverage includes the lone PGA Club Professional in the field to make the cut, Brian Gaffney. The PGA Head Professional at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York, Gaffney’s journey to weekend play at Whistling Straits began by surviving a five-way playoff at the PGA Professional Championship.
While Day, Park and Montgomerie all share championship pedigree gained or furthered in 2015, the PGA of America’s activities this year were not limited to its spectator championships.
The PGA Year in Review also documents Matt Dobyns second title at the PGA Professional Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Other PGA events include riveting playoff victories for Elizabeth Wang and Brad Dalke at the Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armor and Genesis Networks at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas; a rare PGA Cup setback for the United States; a new champion, John DalCorobbo, at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship presented by Mercedes-Benz USA; and for Andy Mickelson, the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Champion, a triumphant return to the game of golf.
In addition, the show chronicles the PGA Junior League Golf Championship at Walt Disney World Resort; the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida; and “One Year to Go” celebrations in advance of next year’s 41st Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
