Hey guys!
Because of all the obnoxious spam recently, I have increased the security level on new users. Now, all new users need to be approved by me before they will be allowed to post.
This should have no effect on current users, but if I see no new posts in the next day or so I'll disable it. So let me know if things are going well with you.

Of course, one problem is I can't really tell if a user is legit or not, and they don't have the ability to PM me to confirm they are not some obnoxious bot. So I have to guess based on the name whether it's legit.
So if you are reading this and want to join this forum, your best bet is to use something that looks like a real ID rather than a license plate, as I'm more likely to think you are legit that way!

Alas, there doesn't seem to be a way to stop guest posting without making it so I have to approve EVERY post on this site. Which would kill this site, so I'm not going to do that.
I'm doing more research, because quite frankly, I feel like guest posting is useless.

PS - the latest spam came from an ip I had already banned, so apparently the IP banning is ignored for guest posting. Sigh...

Success! I found the option to disable guest users. Hopefully we've seen the last of these morons.
(That means you must log in to post, of course).

Annoyingly, though, the option prevents guests from reading and writing. I'm still looking for an option to allow reading as a guest but not posting.
