This one runs Feb. 29 thru March 3. The field is posted and The Shinster will not be here to defend her title ... she'll be at HSBC instead. As a result, the JLPGA will fine her 1M yen (about $6,640 USD) ... Chairwoman Mao received the same fine for skipping her title defense last year (2023's fine money went to charity).
Ga Eun Song will apply her golf doctorate credentials for real starting at this event. If she has done any off-season golf prep, her IG account shows no evidence of it.

Photo shoot samples:
Kana Nagai
Coconut
Hina (The Face) Arakaki
Shocked, SHOCKED that Sharon is not in the photo shoot, but she is getting in her work.
This pic is too fuzzy to make out that iron ... Callaway was her last brand, but maybe she switched again ... looks more like XXIO.

Great to see Natsuka, Kotone Hori and Yui Kawamoto playing.
Also, the Living Legend Yuri Fudoh is in the field. I followed her for nine holes once at the Dinah Shore Championship. It was really great to see how well she played with that long back swing.

The cut was +2 and 54 players made it.
POS NAME SCORE TODAY 1R 2R 3R 4R TOTAL 1 Mao Saigo -11 -6 67 66 133 2 Erika Kikuchi -7 -2 67 70 137 3 Chisato Iwai -6 +1 65 73 138 4 Yuka Nii -5 -2 69 70 139 5T Sakura Kito -4 -1 69 71 140 5T Haruka Amamoto -4 +1 67 73 140 7T Reika Arakawa -3 -2 71 70 141 7T Ai Suzuki -3 -2 71 70 141 7T Ayaka Watanabe -3 0 69 72 141 7T Ritsuko Ryu -3 -1 70 71 141
SHOCKER: Rikako Morita (-1) made it to the weekend ... hadn't shown her face on the JLPGA since 2018 ... topped the money list in 2013, before her career took a steep decline over a cliff.
Sharon trunk slammed ... appears to be gaming the XXIO X -eks- irons which came out in 2022
Ga Eun Song, PhD (Golf, class of 2023) is -1.
Sakura Koiwai (+2)
Yui (MC) with a visor I hadn't seen before

Sharon is a new one for me but I'm an instant fan. Seems to have been around a while, took time out and is now back.

Kotone Hori plus two but at least she made the cut which is always good.
Yui Kawamoto bit the dust again, but she has put a lot of work on her game. So she may start to see improvement in her play.

Sharon is a new one for me but I'm an instant fan. Seems to have been around a while, took time out and is now back. Yes, quite a while. She was KLPGA Rookie of the Year back in 2009 but has not played much at all the past four years. It was surprising to see her enter JLPGA Q School last year and even more surprising to see her win it. Here is her SeoulSisters writeupI'm still working on the updates for the KLPGA profiles, although I've written hers and just not uploaded it yet.

Correction: Professor Ga Eun Song won the last JLPGA q-school ... Sharon finished 17th, good enough for a full ride for at least the first half of 2024, I think.

Yeah, I knew that, I meant to say that she finished 17th and earned a tour card. Thanks for the correction.
