At least it has shaped up to be a two-woman race versus all Celine last week. Let's see if anyone has the gumption to catch up with Stark and Shibuno.
Is shooting 90 a no-no on the LET? Pia Babnik shot 91 on Thursday. Remember when Michelle Wie withdrew before she could potentially shoot 90 in an LPGA tournament?
They showed Laura Davies making a mess of her round on Thursday. She has become an embarrassment. The broadcasters mentioned that The (British) Open had an age cut-off at 60 and Dame Laura was going to reach that on her next birthday. Kind of odd to call it an "open" tournament if you can be too old to play it. The USGA doesn't have such a limit I don't think. The upcoming Women's Amateur has a player who's 61 years of age.

In Gee's round 2 highlights. Despite her 66 you can see she left a few out there.

Michelle Wie was impacted by the 88 because the LPGA had a rule that specifically applied to non-members/sponsor's invites (she was not on tour at the time). The rule was that if you shot an 88 or worse you would not be able to get another exemption for some period of time (I think it was significant, like a year or something). So when it looked like she was going to shoot an 88, she just dropped out of the event. Which she was allowed to do, but she was rightly criticized for it as an obvious attempt to avoid losing her playing privileges.

Eight of eleven sisters made the cut. Great to see In Gee come back with a great round two and to see Six playing competitive golf.
I haven't seen much of the live action due to my travel schedule since Wednesday.
Céline Boutier continues to be very strong, but Celine Borge less so this week. Maybe this would have been the time to get some advice from her caddy?

If a pro played like that it’s a safety hazard. Just saying 88 is a good cutoff.

Well, that was fast. Thought that In Gee might be ready to turn a corner, but today she shot a 75 and plunged down the leaderboard into her usual spot from 20 - 40th (in this case 35th). Hyo Joo just barely in the top ten but has no chance of winning, so it's yet another week of rooting for top tens.
At this point I don't expect any Koreans to challenge next week, but if In Gee can show herself that she can put together another round like yesterday (she was really impressive) and rally to a top ten, she can at least go into next week with some confidence. She has shown she still has it in her.
Speaking of Sisters on the comeback trail, Six shot a 70 and is in the top 20. A Lim, Mi Hyang and Narin An are all lurking for top tens as well. Sisters hwaiting!!

I stayed in blackout mode and waited for the 3 PM replay for Round Three ... a waste of time that didn't hold my interest ... Boutier does nothing for me.
The good news is that MHL keeps plugging along ... no doubles this week ... keep up the momentum and Monday's Weetabix qualifier will be a breeze.

I was still unable to watch any coverage while traveling. Hope that I can catch the final round on Sunday morning here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where I'm traveling on a family vacation.
Would be nice if the final round was interesting and not another Boutier runaway. Never count out the Thai golfers; Atthaya WD (is she injured?) and both Jutanugarn sisters missed the cut, so of course Patty T got plugged in on Saturday. Hyo Joo has too many golfers ahead of her to win but hope that she makes a strong finish. Great to see Six having a competitive weekend, with a good Sunday she could manage a top ten.

Congratulation to Celine Boutier for her second straight win.
At least two Korean golfers had a run at the lead. Hyo Joo Kim had a clean score card with seven birdies to finish second at minus thirteen. A Lim Kim had the best chance with eight birdies through fifteen that got her to minus thirteen. But she made bogeys on sixteen and eighteen to drop to minus eleven. Still a top four tie for A Lim is pretty dern good.
Kudos to Jenny Shin for minus five.

The Korean bad luck continued: once again, when they were playing well, the win was out of reach thanks to one player being too far ahead. But they did play really well, and I'm beginning to believe that the most important aspect of this slump has been a historic bit of bad luck for the Sisters.
So now it's Hyo Joo added to the injured list. It was so bad on Sunday that she was literally limping from hole to hole. Yet she still drained an impressive birdie on the last to grab solo second. For those keeping track, that means the top three Sisters - Jin Young, In Gee and Hyo Joo - are all dealing with performance-impacting injuries. Hye Jin also dropped out this week and for all I know is also injured. And she's the 4th best Korean.
A Lim is quietly becoming a player to watch. She probably came over to the LPGA a bit too early; she hadn't yet developed her game fully in 2021. I'm cautiously optimistic that she is becoming another Korean star. She was brilliant on Sunday, at one point making birdies on 7 of 8 holes. Her biggest problem was a weird difficulty with the final par 5, which she played +2 for the week and never birdied. With even Hyo Joo reaching that one in two, it should have been child's play for A Lim to birdie or eagle it at least once. A Lim is so much fun to watch when she is on that I don't even mind that they never pronounce her name correctly.
Congrats also to Jenny Shin on a final round 67 for a t-16th. Lee6 ended up with a 73 largely thanks to a triple on 8; besides that, she was 2 under and looking at a third 70. t-28th isn't great, but it's nice to see her making cuts and shooting decent rounds. In Gee's t-35th is her typical finish these days, but even she had that fantastic round which I hope she can bank and use as fuel going forward.
Not really a great week, but at this point it's about as positive a week as I've seen from them in a while. If every week going forward we can get one to three Sisters playing as well as Hyo Joo and A Lim did this week, then sooner or later they will break their bad luck streak and get back into the winner's circle.
Hwaiting!

The Little Engine that Could keeps plugging up the hill ... moved from #90 to #86 on CME ... and with 11 spots open for the AIG WO, maybe they'll take more than three players from Monday's qualifier.

Amazing that Hopalong Hyo Joo was able to finish much less finish solo second.
I got on Golf Week's email list and they have their own rankings that apparently stresses stats versus results. Coming into this tournament, Hyo Joo was #1 on their list. Georgia Hall was tops on their list for a while early in the season.
