I figured it's time to have a thread where we gather all the interesting Rolex Rankings news!
The Chevron produced some interesting changes. The most significant of which is that Nelly displaced Lydia atop the world rankings, thanks largely I'm guessing to that super long final putt she hit for eagle which moved her leaderboard position up several spots all by itself. Vu also moved into the top five. The Sisters sit as follows:
3 Jin Young Ko 7.24 - no gain for her alas.
11 (-2) Hyo Joo Kim 4.63 -- fell out of the top ten despite a near top ten at the Major
12 (-1) In Gee Chun 4.22 -- also lost ground despite a good Major
23 Min Ji Park 2.86
25 Hye Jin Choi 2.84 -- she never gains any ground ever

No telling where Hee Jeong Lim will be in by the time US Women Open is played. She seems to drop down in the Ranking every week. I thought after the fifth-place tie that she would stay the same, but she dropped one spot. I hope she qualify and go there to erase how she played in the last two LPGA Majors. But first she needs to play good in the 45th KLPGA Championship after giving two away on the back nine. |

My projection of YJS (Young Jordan Spieth Yu Jin Sung) reaching #84 was off by one spot. Other factors are at play ... the winner's points at Doosan have gone down: 17.5 in 2023, 18.0 in 2022 and 19.0 in 2021.

There's been some talk about the fact that Jin Young Ko is closing in on Lorena Ochoa's all time record for most weeks at number one. I think she needs just three more weeks to tie.
The controversy that has been brewing is that a significant portion of Jin Young's #1 stint happened during the pandemic. You'll recall that they froze the rankings in March of 2020, and did not fully resume them until March, 2021. They did, however, start that weird modified system in July, 2020, where people weren't being as badly penalized when they didn't play, because many were precluded from playing full events. But the rankings were unfrozen at that point, just diminishing more slowly than before.
So what do you think? Does Jin Young get an asterisk if she tops Ochoa because of the frozen rankings? Do you count against her the period the rankings were frozen? Is that pretty much like an off-season (she might have maintained her #1 status even if the rankings were degrading)? If she should be penalized, how many weeks should count against her?
