Are civilians allowed to get into this place before Thursday? Today's qualifier includes MHL playing with Ilhee Lee and SJ Smith ... Bianca is with Vongtaveelap ... Su Oh is with Amy Olson.

My field rating for this event is a very strong 75.5%, way, way up from 66% last year.
My Breakdown is 86% from the LPGA Priority List and 65% from the Rolex Rankings.
The field will be led by top 10 players: Nelly Korda Jin Young Ko Atthaya Thitikul Lexi Thompson Brooke Henderson In Gee Chun
Key Players Skipping the event this weel include: Lydia Ko Minjee Lee Hyo Joo Kim Xiyu Lin Nasa Hataoka Linn Grant
There was not much movement this week in the Rolex Rankings: The real big move was made by Pauline Roussin who rose up from 92 to 61. Roussin won this past weekend's L.E.T event. She won by four strokes over Danielle Kang and five over Lydia Ko. Serena Ioki moved into the top 100 moving from 118-95, while Jenny Shin fell out of the top 100 and my field ratings.

Only nine players have finished so far, including leader Yae Eun Hong (-5) ... and MHL is at -5 thru 14 holes, WOO-HOO!!! Going back to about 2020, she has not passed a Monday qualifier before ... I don't know if she ever entered one during the 2012-14 timeframe.
Vongtaveelap (80) folded up like a $3 suitcase ... the LPGA bunters are safe for another week and maybe longer.

Vongtavaleep's not exactly got a long history of fantastic performances behind her. Yeah, she did really well in her home country on courses and conditions she grew up playing, but beside that? Let's just say I'll take a wait and see attitude about her for now. Here's her ranking history. That is one big jump thanks to one event.

One under achiever Yaeeun Hong made it, the other under achiever Mi Hyang Lee didn't. They both need to get their heads on straight, focus and start playing like they are capable of.

Caddie list is out ... Big Ryu is going with Shaun Clews, who has been around the block a few times (per Getty Images: Alex, Nat Nat, The Shinster, Jee Young Lee and Hee Won Han) ... he also did a cameo with Inky the Semi-retiree at the 2022 Mediheal. Yuna Nishimura is employing Ryan Smith, a guy who worked for Lilia Vu and J. Chang last year. I'm guessing Taneka Mackey dumped Amy Olson, who is now reduced to playing Monday qualifiers, in favor of Min Lee.
Minami Katsu has Jay Davey, who was with Yuka Saso late last year and Lauren Kim before that ... that's funny to see rain in the desert.
Shibuno Fever picked up John Bennett ... per Getty, there was a John Bennett who worked for Sakura Yokimine at the 2009 JLPGA Tour Championship and the 2015 KPMG.

Good starts for most of the Korean golfers led by Jenny Shin with eight birdies one bogey.
Narin An and Jeongeun Lee6 had the same type of score with seven birdies and two late bogeys. However, Jeongeun needed twenty-two putts.
The two Ryus So Yeon and Hae Ran had the same type of score with five birdies three bogeys. But Hae Ran driving average was 306 and So Yeon was 251 which is not too good in the desert where balls fly farther. Hae Ran also finished with three straight birdies.
Jin Young had a so, so start for her, one over front nine three under back nine. Not all that bad with three more rounds to play. Her first round last Tournament was even par.
Also shout out to three under players, In Gee Chun three birdies no bogeys, Yaeeun Hong, Sei Young Kim six birdies, three bogeys and Eun-Hee-Ji who had an eagle.

Round 1 Jin Young had a slow start again, just like in Singapore. But she looked pretty darn good on the back nine. She missed three straight birdie tries by the smallest of margins before she dunked her final one. If she keeps giving herself birdie tries like those she is going to start making them. Apparently she is also sick, but I don't think it will affect her too badly. At this point she's 5 back with lots of time to make that up. Oh, and had a 297 yard driving average if that means anything. In Gee looked solid, 3 under. Missed a couple of makeable putts, but looked pretty good. A lot of other Sisters up there. Sei Young, Yae Eun also at 3 under. Hae Ran, So Yeon and A Lim at 2 under. The worst Korean was at even par today. Na Rin and 6 shot 67s, Jenny Shin a 65. All in all a nice start. Sisters hwaiting! Jenny Shin co-leader Na Rin An Jin Young In Gee Sei Young Kim
