Starts Friday for a field of 108 ... top-50 plus ties make the cut. Baba-chan has three hapless competitors for the low-am trophy. Ayaka Furue is OUT and Yuka Saso is IN. Pseudo-major leaguer Ting Ting will have her minor league kick-off for 2023. Un-retiree Yuki Ichinose will make her first start of 2023, along with washout(?) Kotono Kozuma.
The addition of the BS channels at aqstream is just terrific ... although it gets a little complicated Sunday as you have to switch channels twice to get it all.
Japan time:
■ BS Asahi March 17 (Fri) 13:00-15:56 (LIVE) March 18th (Sat) 13:00-15:54 (LIVE) March 19 (Sun) 13:00-13:55 (LIVE) / 15:17-16:20 (LIVE) aqstream.com/jp/tva/BS-Asahi

The stream started at Midnight for me and runs for three hours ... I don't think I'll make it to the end, but it looks good so far. The main focus has been the Katsu/Koiwai/Saso group, but they've sprinkled in a few other players ... including Yui who rolled a birdie from off the green at #14 to go -3 ... oh, she just birdied #15 to go -4.

Yui Kawamoto got to four under but same Yui finishing a round. She played the par five sixteen all over the place but made a long putt to save par. Hit her shot on par three seventeen short of the green, hit a bad chip and three putted for a double bogey.
Kotone Hori forgot how to play golf, defending her Title is moot since shot eighty one.

Forget about Yui ... shouldn't you be at Longbow? MHL and Bianca are in the same group! Ruffles potato chips is tied for first at -9. Chungchungkar gagged today, but will make the cut. Bianca also looks safe ... aigoo, MHL is on the cut line at -1 with five holes left to play.

We're about 50 minutes into the broadcast ... looked like a rout with Ueda up by five shots thru 9 holes ... not anymore, she butchered the 11th hole, which included an airmailed sand shot into an opposite bunker ... now leads Serena Aoki by two shots. Wheels are really coming off now ... Aoki about 3 feet left for a birdie at short par-3 12th, while Ueda went over the green. Aoki makes putt, Ueda saves par, now a one-shot lead. Here we go again, Momoko in the left woods at the par-5 13th ... if you didn't know who she was, you'd think you were watching a winless scrub gagging under the spotlight.
The par-4 15th is only 277 ... we'll see if Saso or Baba-chan can get there in one shot a little later ... I don't think any other players can do it.
Erika Hara finished short and left at #15 ... chipped it close and made a birdie. She will make an impression on the LPGA ... assuming she doesn't fly apart like a broken clock spring during Q-Series, which is always a danger with her.

Wow, this has become an Ohio train wreck ... a three-shot swing at #13 dropped Ueda two shots behind Aoki ... then Momoka's short par-saver at #14 takes an unseen off-ramp to the left ... now it's a three-shot deficit. I hope someone posts this disaster via rogue video onto YT. The 16th hole looks like another mess in the making. UPDATE: another shot lost for Momoka ... do they gamble on golf tournaments in Japan? Is she taking a dive? I know she's pushing 37, but really .... Well, we're back to when I started watching the broadcast ... it's a rout again.
BTW, Saso and Baba-chan didn't reach the 15th green in one shot.
A Google-mushed article from a few weeks ago said Aoki devoted herself to golf 100% in 2022 ... meaning she stopped reading Manga, stopped going to the theater and stopped putting on makeup and sun block at the course ... I was wondering why pics of her last year looked, well, a little rough. If you told me she wears the same outfit every day, I'd believe it.

It was worse than I thought, worse than The Shark at the '96 Masters since Ueda birdied the first five holes and had an eight-shot lead ... calling all sports psychologists. A Google-mush quote afterward:
"I was in a rush in the second half. It was hard to get my focus back. I couldn't decide. I felt like I couldn't do anything," she said of the "nightmare" that took her 42 (par 36).
Ueda had similar last round blow-ups late last year at Ito En and Toto ... ruh-roh ...
