20-year-old Min A Yoon, who plays on the Epson tour normally, won the TPS Victoria title in Australia on Sunday. Why is this historic? She has become just the third woman in history to win a mixed-gender event! Min A Yoon wins TPS VictoriaHer week included a hole-in-one in the first round and a holeout for eagle on the final day. She shot a final round 63. She also turned 20 this week. Happy birthday! There were just ten women who made the final day; the week started with 90 men, 50 women and the Australian male amateur champ. Yoon was tied for third entering the final day. Two other pro women made the top ten, including LPGA player Steph Kyriacou; they all finished tied for ninth. They made a huge deal about Linn Grant when she won one of these a while ago; let's see if the Korean gal gets any notice. Congrats to Min A Yoon!

Not surprisingly, the Epson tour website seems to have completely ignored this feat. Oh well.

"Beating" the men? Am I or anyone else supposed to take this seriously? It took a while, but I confirmed the obvious: the men played a longer course. The third round YT highlights show Webby making a birdie putt at #1, which was at 375m ... moments later, some guy I never heard of before rolled a in birdie putt at #1, which was at 435m. Hello, that's about 66 yards in real distance!
The real story is Yoon (-24) beating a young fireball like Kyriacou (-17) with room to spare. I'm surprised SJ Smith was also at -17 ... I watched her in person in 2021 and she's got ability, but let's face it, she's starting to pile up the mileage. Speaking of mileage, Karrie was only four shots back at -13 ... this had to be a pushover course ... BadA$$ would have shot 35-under. One other player of note was Justice Bosio (-17) who is the top Oz woman amateur at #59 on WAGR ... she's going to ANWA.

Methinks you're getting outraged over nothing here. Yeah, she beat the men. The course was set up to take out the factor of the superior length of the men, but the gals still had to out-putt, out-chip and out-approach the guys, and Yoon did that. Do you really think this story would have been buried if they had played from the same tees and she won? Be real. But it's fun to see them go toe to toe like this, and yeah, I think it's interesting that the women occasionally come out on top. I mean, how is this any different than playing someone with a higher handicap? It's built into the sport already. The guy who finished second was a member at the course, had a five shot lead going into the final round, and had the entire crowd rooting for him, and she still beat him. I gotta give her some props. And maybe these were not the greatest male players ever, but Yoon is an Epson tour player who didn't earn her LPGA card last season. She's not exactly Jin Young Ko.

How is it history or historic (your words) when it was the third time a gal beat the guys since last year? As for lack of publicity now, yes, Nichols played up Grant doing it, but she doesn't know about women's tours outside of the LPGA and LET. I'm impressed you found out about Yoon doing it. OZ and NZ might as well be on the dark side of the Moon ... those countries have been abandoned by the LPGA and LET ... nobody follows what's going on down there.
BTW, this week was either a total fluke for Yoon, or she has gotten a whole lot better in the last three months. I looked her up on the Epson tour and she has one top-10 since 2020.
Ewan Porter has a good Twitter feed. He interviewed Justice Bosio who confirmed that she had Stephanie Na carrying her bag and has been a frequent looper for her. He also re-tweeted this brief kangaroo vs. kangeroo dust-up:

IIRC Yoon was in the hunt for getting a card at Q-Series but faded towards the end and missed out. So she's probably better than one-top-ten in three years, but yeah, I don't think she's LPGA caliber as yet.
[EDIT]: Looked it up. She finished t-49th and the top 45 earned cards. So, close but no cigar.

'Historic', by the way, was the word that the article I read this from used, and I just copied it. Yeah, I guess the third time isn't as historic, but it's still cool.
