The LPGA makes a return to Kenwood CC this week ... today's qualifier is under way .... Suzuka Yamaguchi is DFL at +4 thru 11 holes ... how do you say "aigoo" in Japanese?
*********
KCC's biggest women's tournament was the '63 USWO (above) ... set at 6,444 yards with Neanderthal clubs and balls (it's set at 6,515 this week) ... it's no wonder that the women pros thought the USGA despised them. The cut was +13 and only the winner Mary Mills (-3) finished under par. Funny, I never heard of Mills before ... and she won 9 times during the Wright/Mann/Whitworth era, which was no easy feat.

MHL picked up 13 spots to #127 on CME ... hmmm, do that four more times in a row and she'll be in the top-80, avoiding Q-school. CME is way more important than Rolex these days, where she moved up 16 spots to #249. Btw, Ting Ting moved up 149 spots to #182 on Rolex.
********
They're charging $80 for a weekly grounds pass (Wed. thru Sun.) or $25 per day ... parking is $10/day or $40/week.
*******
Looking ahead, Portland//Amazing CRE has become the West Coast version of the Shoprite/Acer scrub convention ... will TonyJ's field rating hit a new low? At least with Shoprite, the player have many nice places to check out in the AC area ... who the hell wants to go to Portland?

14 year old Gianna Clemente has Monday qualified for the third week in a row, her 65 was 3 better than fellow qualifier Pannarat Thanapolboonyaras, and 5 better than the rest of the pros.

I am typing this in the media center of the Kroger Queen City Championship. It started raining hard at about 11am and they blew the horn. It is now 4 hours later and most of the players have left.
My field rating for this inaugural championship is a mediocre 59%. My breakdown is 67% from the LPGA Priority List and 51% from the Rolex Rankings.
The field will be led by top ten players: Minjee Lee, Brooke Henderson, Atthaya Thitikul, Lexi Thompson, Hyo Joo Kim and Nasa Hataoka.
Players not teeing it up this week include: Jin Young Ko Nelly Korda Lydia Ko Celine Boutier So Yeon Ryu In Gee Chun Georgia Hall Madelene Sagstrom Eun-Hee Ji Charley Hull Carlotta Ciganda Maya Stark
Other notes: As Phil noted earlier the Race to the CME Globe standings are actually much more important then the Rolex Rankings, as they will decide who plays next year and who doesn't. Finishing in the top 100 is vital if you want to play next year. The players that made important moves this week are: Frida Kinhult 91-80 Wei-Ling Hsu 90-84 Ruioning Yin 142-93
In the race for the Player of the Year, Minjee Lee leads Brooke Henderson 149 to 129 for that Hall of Fame point. The other Hall of fame point that is up for grabs is for the Vare Trophy. That is a very tight race. Here are the leaders there: Minjee Lee 69.196 Hyo Joo Kim 69.413 Lydia Ko 69.418 Brooke Henderson 69.458
The Rookie of the Year race is also very close with Atthaya Thitikul leading Hye-Jin Choi 1096 to 1041.
Gaby Lopez's win this past week means that we now have had winners from 12 different countries this year.
We did have some big moves in the Rolex Rankings this week: Megan Khang 37-27 Gaby Lopez 67-37 Caroline Masson 82-67 Sara Schmelzel 83-74 Lucy Li 161-125
And finally, we also had the final reshuffle of the LPGA Priority List. I am only going to list the players who benifited the most and got hurt the most: Players who benifited the most and will have a much better chance to tee it up in full field events: Stephanie Kyriacou 153-111 Linn Grant 178-114 Emily Kristine Pederson 145-118 Frida Kinhult 148-119 Daniela Darquea 380-146 Karis Davidson 185-147 Haylee Hartford 164-152 Tiffany Chan 369-154 Alena Sharp 371-155 Lindy Duncan - 187-156
Players that got hurt the most: Sanna Nuutinen 117-148 Yaeeun Hong 116-149 Brianno Do 143-161 Bianca Pagdanganan 150-163 Katherine Perry Hamski 152-178
Oh wait...I have to post this for Phil....Mi Hyang Lee improved from 165-157!!!!

Looks like Jin Young Ko is taking a break... No longer on any entry lists til BMW. (Was there for Portland not long ago) Bummer, will lose #1. But maybe for the best. Her game has been off lately in a way it hasn't been since I've watched her... So many bogeys, poor GiR. I hope she'll come back strong and kicking ass again. It's worked before! Maybe her wrist? New coach and manager don't seem to be doing her much good.

It's a real drag that she won't come to defend her title in Portland. I probably won't be able to go this year, but wouldn't you know that one of the few years when I didn't go (last year) a Sister won? The last time I actually saw a Korean win an event in person was 2006, when Hee Won Han won the Safeway Classic. I missed MJ Hur's and Jin Young's wins. Meanwhile I've seen Brooke Henderson win three times.
(OK, I did see early rounds the year Lydia Ko won her first Canadian Open, 2012 I think. That was the only time I ever saw Hee Kyung Seo in person).

Aw man, that's some bad luck. Hopefully the universe will make it up to you and the next will be something epic... SHP comeback win or A Lim or 6ix finally following up their major. Hmm, I can't remember your favorite player because (like me) you like a lot of players. I get why people forget mine now, lol.
Some lucky folks who got to see In Gee's major comeback win live. Damn!

Caddie list is out ... Team Mushy is reunited for this week, Kempy & Lisa Cornwell .... speaking of mushy, The EMP gave Dusty another week off. Did The French Gamecock (#75 on CME) can Sebastien Clement? She's going with vet Ivan Galdame ... maybe it's a one-week vacation for SC ... we'll know later. Dr. Noh has Patrick Smith (who?) ... I think that's another new one. HEAD SCRATCHER DEPT: After shooting her best score of 2022, MHL said so long to Jeff Decoen and picked up Nicholas Garmone (never heard of him) ... or maybe Jeff D. called this shot as he landed with Wichanee Meechai (#66 on CME).

There have been some near misses for me at least. I was there in 2014 when there were several Koreans with a chance to win. IIRC, So Yeon Ryu had the lead going into the final hole, hit her drive into the bunker, then hit from there into the water and blew it. A few minutes later, IK Kim got into a playoff, but she lost to Austin Ernst, who had never won before. I was really close to seeing one of my faves grab that win. A few years later, In Gee was near the lead with a few holes to play, but Stacy Lewis rallied and won. I recall it was the tricky 17th that cost In Gee; she had a birdie putt to go ahead and missed it. She finished second to Lewis but was five shots ahead of third. I also was there the week that Inbee qualified for the Hall of Fame. All the stars were wearing Inbee Park masks when they greeted her at the 18th green after round 1. LOL. Alas, Henderson won that week. Well, maybe the next time I go will be the lucky time!

Check out the roller coaster The Pink One is riding today on her first 14 holes ... one more eagle or double bogey and she'll toss her cookies.
CDW finally dumped her ... she had been with them almost forever.

I have been lucky enough to see So Yeon win the ANA and her last LPGA win at the Meijer Classic. I also saw her win the first Tournament she played as a Professional on the Cactus Tour.
I saw Jin Young Ko win in Phoenix. There must have been others because I saw a lot of Dinah Shore/Nabisco/Ana and Phoenix Tournaments.

If you guys are speaking strictly of the LAST day of a tournament, I think the only last day I've ever attended for the LPGA was the 2017 USWO ... it was GREAT, until the first swing by Cyborg at #16 ... after that, it STUNK.
********
So, MHL moved up eight spots in CME ... but that pushed her up only two spots for Mediheal into the last position (#120) ... she might need the fire department to stay in that event. As for today, -1 thru 11 holes ... just stay away from the big numbers.
********
Chella needs this gadget to find the top-10 leaders ... is that a Captain America ball marker? Is she a fan of Fat Trick Reed?!
