Dozens of suckers dreamers will plunk down $2,500 for the privilege of playing blast furnace golf ... Accuweather says the Rancho Mirage highs for Aug. 18-21 will be 103F, 106, 102 and 102. The field hasn't been posted yet.

Looking ahead, this week's Rolex top-75 can go straight to LPGA Q-Series in December if they so desire ... that could include Minor League Minjee, Chairwoman Mao, Mone Inami, Yuna Nishimura, Hee Jeong Lim, Miyuu Yamashita, Pia Babnik, So Mi Lee, Saku-chan, Linn Grant, Minami Katsu, Ji Young Park, Su Ji Kim, Han Sol Ji, Maja Stark, Sayaka Takahashi, Ina Yoon, Yewon Lee, Hong Kong Park and Hori Two.

WHUMP! THERE IT IS! Sharon is teeing off Thursday on the Dinah course at 11:10 AM with Sarah Posey (who?) and Jieming Yang(a) (who?) ... The Expert called it.
Bailey Shoemaker(a) is entered? Maybe she's not so hot about going to SoCal after all. EJ Seong will tee it up ... an off-the-rails trainwreck, what happened? Two saplings from the Stanford tree will give it a go, Aline Krauter and Angelina Ye (whose game hit the skids the last couple of years). A few other familiar names I've seen in person clunking around the perimeter of big-time women's golf - Maiya Tanaka, Ale Llaneza, Christina Foster, Suzie Lee ... and Kim Welch.

Hang in there Kim, never give up. If that's this one at Q-School
Before Big Break, and Winning Big Break Ka'anapali
Before we write more about what Kim Welch is doing today, let's take a quick look back at her star turn on Big Break Ka'anapali — and what came before.
Welch was a college golf star at Washington State University, where she won 11 tournaments and had 29 Top 10 finishes in her years there. She turned pro in 2005, and played on the Symetra Tour in 2006 and 2007, finishing 21st on the money list in 2007.

Now for The Big Question: Will Sharon get the Galloway pro-am or the Pines course pro-am in 2023? After all, she's going to be America's Guest for at least the next twelve months. I'll be STUNNED if she gets full-blown LPGA status, but Epson status is enough to make her an "on-call" for Shoprite/Acer on Wednesday and Thursday. Haven't see any GIC articles posted re this field yet, and nothing in my online sources from Japan, Korea or China.

According to Nichols, the top-100 plus ties advance to Stage Two. Sharon is on track after shooting 70 (-2) on the Dinah course, placing her T-59. She'll have new playing partners tomorrow, Canuck southpaw Christina Foster (-3) and Ellinor Sudow (-3). Foster somehow did not get into the Canuck Women's Open (frickin' Lori Kane made it) and hasn't made a dime on the Epson Tour since May 2019 ... her video is in The Archives, hitting a wedge on Lancaster's range.
Sharmila Nicollet (+2, T-161) ... I guess she's here to build up her pro-am street cred (which was probably pretty good already).
Linda Wang (-2, T-59) ... dressed like a pro with knee-highs at USGA qualifiers while she was at St. John's U.
Isabella Fierro (a) (+1, T-128) ... after escaping from Oklahoma State, she chose to play her senior season for Ole Miss.

America's new national guest is proving she is a real golfer by shooting 70 again on Friday on the Arnold Palmer course, placing her T-35. Sharon will get grouped with two new unknowns on Saturday at the Shadow Ridge course ... BTW, approx. 175 clowns will be sent packing after Saturday's round ... Sunday's round will be at the Dinah course. Now the Big Question: Will she play any tournaments or qualifiers anywhere between now and Stage Two (Oct. 18-21)?

Huh?! I didn't mention Grant. I thought you were tracking all the rookies this year. This recent article covers Grant, who has picked a bunch of CME points this year:

Sharon is all class ... third-straight 70 moved her up to T-24.

Shi Ae Ahn plus four today plus two total a tie for sixty place.
Eun Jeong Seong is really having problems with her golf game. An eight over par today to miss the top one hundred by one shot. I thought this was the last round, if so why are they showing another cut, I really haven't paid much attention to the format.

EJ Seong needs a check-up from the neck up ... closing with an 80 is inexplicable ... this cannot be the same player I saw up-close hit crush a golf ball in 2016 & 2018.

Who the heck is Bi Shin and what is she doing shooting -12 (T-4) .... collected peanuts playing the WAPT in 2022.

Junior lost her game somewhere along the line. Ted Oh certainly didn't help her. That's tough news to hear. She needs to Monday qualify for the rest of her career.
