The 40th edition of this event will star the Kawana Hotel - Fuji golf course, ranked #2 in Japan, #2 in Asia and #42 in the world ... all the people there are incidental. It starts Friday for a field of 108 with the top-50 plus ties making the cut. The field was completed with a Monday qualifier ... 12 players (including seven amateurs) made it from a field of 45.

Chairwoman Mao is out for the second straight week with neck pain and The Shinster is still AWOL.

Saiki Fujita picked up her sixth career ace at #17 (172 yards), worth 5 million Yen. I guess the cameraman was on lunch, because it's not included in the JLPGA official highlight reel or in a couple of rogue videos.

Both Yui Kawamoto and Kotone Hori finished even par. Neither had good back nines Kotone two birdies one bogey front, one bogey back. Yui needs to get over her phobia about finishing rounds. She had three birdies one bogey front nine, finished with bogeys on seventeen and eighteen.

Kotone Hori had an ok round, needs to go low the final round. Yui Kawamoto had a WQ, didn't matter the last time I checked she was five over.

Didn't feel like getting up at 2:30 AM for the regular broadcast, so I watched a couple of rogue videos later ... covered mostly the middle holes with the final group of Takahashi, Fujita and Matsumori. The course didn't play hard for them and the weather was perfectly benign. The cut was Even and 50 players made it.
A day late, but not a dollar short ... worth almost $39K USD ... Saiki Fujita's ace on Friday:

You need to sign up for GolfTV, then tune a VPN to Japan - they've been showing every JLPGA tournament. Guess you might need a VPN to sign up for GolfTV from US anyway...
Cloudy, cool day today, but this seaside course is gorgeous. As is Miyuki Takeuchi above, hmm, gotta investigate her a bit. JLPGA fashions are the best.

Seaside weather is a new element Sunday for Kana Nagai and everyone else ... to what degree, I don't know ... I'm in scoreboard blackout mode.

Nice to see Sayaka hold it together wire-to-wire for her first win.

I don't know THE DIRT on this situation ... Queen Shiho (+1) dug up her old looper, Dana Derouaux, who is really old (w/ Jan Stephenson in 1976) ... here he is on Thursday ...
... and there he is during Round One ...
... but by Sunday, Old Dana must have been out on the street, because the Queen had scooped up Lionel Matichuk (ex-Saso).
