I kinda knew the second I said Jin Young had a chance that she would bogey the first hole, and,... yep! Since apparently Hataoka never makes a mistake, this one is over, but I'm still sending positive vibes to Jin Young and company to move up the leaderboard. Hwaiting!!!

Patty T. with some help from Grant Waite won a major in 2021. This year she finished the Dio Implant at +1. Waite's star pupil kangster1 got a top 10 at -6. Little Jerry Barber won his first PGA tournament at 37 and 1st major at 45. Colonel Sanders bedded every girl in town but didn't make his first million till he was 65.

Congratulation to Nasa Hataoka for her Tournament win
My hat's off to Hye Jin Choi with a nine under weekend to finish tied for sixth place.
Inbee Park another really good Tournament with a third place tie.
Also with a sixth place tie was Miss Eagle Chella Choi, Sei Young Kim and Haeji Kang.
Haeji Kang only missed two fairways and three greens but had thirty three putts. She missed a two or three foot putt for birdie on sixteen and par on seventeen. She will move up, but is 120 right now on RACE to the CME Group. So she has to take advantage and make those those putts to keep moving up.
Another lost weekend for So Yeon Ryu, except she did make some pocket change. Its better than missing the cut I guess.
Another bad Tournament for Jin Young Ko. She was talking about changing things in her swing wanting to get better. That swing has won her thirteen Tournaments, five last year. So why do these golfers always think they need to make swing changes. I can understand if you are struggling with your swing. Hopefully it's just a mini slump.

There was a comment on GolfWrx that Brainiac Brooker was encouraging The New Ko to hit her ball out of that drainage pit.
New artwork over the bar inside Wilshire's grille room.

Yes - Brooker, what the heck, how could you let Jin Young do this?! This 2nd attempt was somewhat excusable; the first no way.
And how many members will now be placing a ball where Jin Young's 2nd shot landed and trying to flop it over the wall and onto the green?
Would love to know what her playing partners were thinking too - Hannah Greene standing back there surely must have been chuckling to herself.

Round 4
This is an early candidate for most frustrating event of the year. On the one hand, I haven't seen this many Koreans and Sisters on a leaderboard in a long time. Five Koreans and two other Sisters in the top ten. But there wasn't a lick of doubt that none of them were going to win (or as it turned out, even finish second).
I'm a tad worried about Jin Young. Since, barring the one Hyo Joo win, she is basically carrying the banner for the Koreans, if she's not at her best, it's going to be another long, painful Major season. Since her run of 29/30 rounds in the 60s, she has played only 3 of 11 in the 60s. She managed to bogey the final two holes, shooting +4, which was the worst score anyone shot today in the entire top 40. I'll admit I was suspecting it would be not that great a round, but I was expecting maybe +1 at the worst. She won't even get a top 20 out of this. Brutal. And this was on a course she loves. What happens when she gets to one not suited to her game?
(OK, it's possible she just kind of tossed it in mentally after the 8 yesterday, but that's not a good sign, either. A player of her caliber should not be hitting 9/18 GIRs on a course that sets up well for her).
Inbee did OK, but a -1 score isn't all that great, either. Still, I'll take the t-3rd given the way she's gone of late.
The one really bright spot was Hye Jin's brilliant 67. Even there, it would have been nice to see her get just one shot better and secure a top five, but at least she finally had a good week when Thitikul did not. Making bogey on the par 5 was an unfortunate mistake. Still, congrats for needed ROY points! Amazingly, she still is not in the top 40 in the Rolex rankings even after this result. 42nd and moving up...
The other bright spot was the top ten for Sei Young. She still had some inconsistency, but at least she's starting to get back to her top level. Nice top tens for Haeji Kang (who really needed it) and Chella Choi.
Here's hoping I have a more enjoyable Sunday next week! Hwaiting!

Looking at the photo above, it looks like there was more distance between Jin Young and the wall than I thought. On TV it looked ludicrously close, here not so much.
Having said that, the real question is: how likely was it she would get a par save? Yes, she is an A-1 scrambler, but she was hitting out of a pile of mud, not even a real sand trap, and had to hit high to get over the wall, meaning she had little control over how close she could get it. It strikes me as low percentage any way you look at it, with the best result likely a bogey.
Meanwhile, if she takes the penalty and hits even a mediocre 4th, she still had a good chance for bogey or double at worst. This was a no-brainer. I've actually talked to Dave many times over the years, he's a smart cookie, but if he convinced her to try this (I doubt it), that was not savvy; and in any event, he should have tried to talk her out of it and it doesn't look like he did. Ah well, mud under the bridge as they say. Better it happened here than at a Major, right?

The Chicago Bears played the Washington Redskins in the 1940 NFL championship and won 73-0. Early in the game, with the score at 7-0, Sammy Baugh the Redskins quarterback, threw to a wide open Charley Malone at the Bears' 4-yard line and the receiver dropped the pass. Later, the story goes that Baugh was asked what would have happened if Malone had caught the ball and answered, "the score would have been 73-7." If JYK had gotten the improbable up and down, she would have only finished 9 strokes behind Nasa.

Yeahhh... I'm not going to concede that. There's a whole lotta difference between cruising along with a five-shot lead and having the world #1 two shots behind you in the final group. But anyway, I'm more interested in the decision process with that shot than whether she would have won, which I never mentioned at all in the above post.

If Nasa was Korean you wouldn't say something so silly.

If Nasa was Korean you wouldn't say something so silly. If Nasa was Korean you wouldn't have made that football statement. Again most of us was commenting about her decision to try that shot.

I'll have you know that I am very capable of being very silly as far as the Koreans are concerned!
