The season kick-off is March 3 thru 6 on Okinawa and the full field of 108 (including five amateurs) has been posted ... and no Ting Ting. Two other surprise absentees are SW Bae and Min Young Lee, plus we already know that Momoko Ueda is playing in Singapore the same week. Big Mama Ahn is supposed to make a comeback in 2022, but it won't be here. The Unknown Korean (Hana Lee) will tee it up ... and so will Bo Mee Lee. Everyone would LOVE to see Smile Candy win again, but that hasn't happened since 2017 ... and what's the point after 21 JLPGA wins anyway? She's pushing 34 and is running up against her biological clock.
They'll have smatterings of TV for all four days. The link below will have some of it on the weekend (Japan time) -

Tuesday practice:
Hina (The Face) Arakaki has gone all in with Taylormade in 2022 ... dumped Srixon after 2022 and dabbled with Callaway in 2021 while Munsingwear had front stage on her cap ... has a TM glove below, so she might be using a TM ball, too.
Bo Mee Lee
Mone Inami and Reika Usui
Minami Katsu and Sakura Koiwai

Wednesday practice:
Out with the old and in with the new ... old ... Shinobu Moromizato ... still loyal to TM, going back to when I saw her at the 2006 Shoprite.
Speaking of old, I assume Ayako Uehara is in Japan for good.
Ting Ting is not in the field ... did they have a pro-am or is she just waiting for someone to pull up lame on the range Thursday?
Those brooms look like the flying versions

Two big guns are starting the season club contract-free:
1.) Erika Hara
Until this week, she had Mizuno on her caps/visors going back to her amateur days. She still has Mizzy irons, but dumped their woods in favor of Callaway ... said she reduced her spin with Cally's Rogue ST LS Triple Diamond driver.
She is -1 thru 9 holes.
2.) Sayaka Takahashi
No more club contract, but she still has a ball contract with Bridgestone. She used a Bridgestone driver last year.
She is Even thru 10 holes.

It may extremely tough these days to find rogue videos on YouTube ... the JLPGA has a monthly pay deal for viewing its product on GOLFTV in Japan.

Let's chime in again to say that the JLPGA's policy of restricting their product from the outside world makes absolutely no sense.

Nice start for Kotone Hori at minus one.
But Yui Kawamoto has work to do with a plus two first round. She had a couple of birdies but four bogeys and thirty three putts.

The cut was +2 and 58 players made it. Numerous unknowns were cluttering up the top-10 for a while, but they evaporated.

Kotone Hori starting the new season with her good scoring.
Unfortunately Yui Kawamoto starting her season by missing the cut. She has worked hard on her game, so expect her to start playing better.

The live TBS broadcast worked perfectly this AM ... 54 minutes, but not a second longer ... never saw Watanabe's par saver putt attempt at # 18 (she made it).
A few rogue YT videos were posted ... they probably won't last, but here's the GOLFTV version of what I saw (they used different camera angles compared to TBS) ... Watanabe's eagle hole-out at #17 starts at the 19-minute mark ... and her left-handed bunker putt at #18 starts at 44:25 -

I dozed off before the end, but I had a feeling Mao Saigo would finally get her first win after she rolled in a birdie putt from the collar at #17.

Geez, what's with that R2 outfit on Hara?! Is Pearly Gates making a maternity line now? Guess it could just be a horrible camera angle, I see she's wearing a similar loose top in the R3 photo...
Thanks for these reports - really trying to get into JLPGA this year.
