Regarding Pine Needles ...
The "official" yardage in 2007 was 6,664 ... which was a lot back then, only five players broke par. This year, the course is set at 6,546 ... a shorter course with 15 years of gear advancements  ... I think we can assume that there will be numerous land mines planted to compensate for this. In the last 25 USWOs, the winning score has been -10 or better only five times. |

All three of Tuesday's qualifiers were carried over into today, due to weather and darkness. In Texas, Annie Park was top-medalist ... this is at least the third time Annie has passed USWO qualifying in her career. Four players will be fighting for the three remaining spots: Ingrid Lindblad (a), Robynn Ree, Karen Kim and Cheyenne Knight ... the loser gets 1st Alternate ... Lauren Stephenson already has the worthless 2nd Alternate.

The "Malaysian Ladies' Number One" (as the local golf rags like to say) should have been in Hockley TX on Tuesday instead of trying on wedding dresses in San Diego. I understand why she chose Morris County NJ for it's convenience to the adjacent Founders Cup event, but that one is a lot more competitive.
She's had a lot of success in these USGA qualifiers over the years so I'll give her credit that she knows what she's doing.

They're still going at it in Morristown ... four spots and two alternates available. Karen Chung and Crusty Grrr were DNS and The New ECP (Entitled Calgary Princess) quit after 11 holes during her second round (opened with a 77).

The Old Goofball is sooooooo right!!!!!!! (long time, no word ... I was starting to worry that his Ford Fusion might have gone over a cliff with him in it).
Il Hee Lee is so good in so many ways since her first days on the tour ... shoots 73-65 in Madera, CA and wins by one shot over Ruffels (the other successful qualifier). She's been at it for a while ... I remember seeing her walking to her car carrying her bag after striking out at Fiddlers Elbow in 2011 ... it's probably too far, but I'd love to see her try to qualify at Shoprite/Acer. Speaking of that event, someone must have dropped out because MHL moved back up to the 144 spot ... what a tenuous situation.   |

GARCIA, TARNING SOENDERBY AND HALL QUALIFY FOR U.S. WOMEN’S OPENNicole Garcia, Smilla Tarning Soenderby, and Lydia Hall grabbed the 3 spots from the European qualifier. Big congrats to Lydia who played the 36 holes, and 5-for-1 playoff having just flew over from Thailand from the LET event the day before, to qualify for her first US Women's Open.

I count 146 names in the field. I assume the USGA is working its way through the 1st alternate list for most of the remaining ten spots. I still think they'll give a special invite to Crusty Grrr.
The Asian tour players who made it via Rolex rankings appear to be Saku-chan, Eee Ga Young, So Mi Lee, HJ Lim, Yuna Nishimura, Hae Ran Ryu, Chairwoman Mao, Ai Suzuki, Sayaka Takahashi and Momoko Ueda.
