Great come back by Jin Young after a so, so front nine. The Golf Channel seem to have forgot about her after her first two holes. It looked like Nelly Korda was playing as a single, because they didn't show Nasa much either. Good thing that she started making birdies so they could find her. She also was using her old putting routine which she didn't use much the last Tournament
They sure showed Thompson hacking around the course a lot.
Kudos: To them for showing a lot of different golfers to their home countries.
Inbee Park was getting a little irritated later because her good putts were just missing. Still as usual she played a solid round of golf.
Good rounds by Hyo Joo Kim and Sei Young Kim as well.

I think the coverage here has to be different and we have to tolerate seeing some golfers with bad scores because they should try to get in all (or most) of the countries. I couldn't agree with you more on Lexi's coverage. If she is not on the first page of the leaderboard, we don't need to see her every shot at the expence of us not seeing players ahead of her. This seems to be a weekly thing now. As much as I like seeing coverage of American players, I like it when she is not in the field...how many missed 3 footers do I need to see.

It's going to be tough to beat a Nexus-6 replicant. She's making a mockery of this course (set-up). There is no joy in Mudville, the mighty Koreans have struck out. Maybe this approaching Typhoon is a good thing - will put everyone out of their misery.

Round 2 Well, they did what I was hoping they wouldn't: they wimpified the course, and suddenly everyone and her aunt was putting for eagle, driving greens, blah blah blah. On such a course, hot putter wins, and it looks like that's going to be Korda. OK, whatever, she's a top player, but what's annoying is the number of third rate talents queueing up behind her to grab the other medals. Whenever Grant says the course has been set up for 'excitement', I get a visceral negative reaction, cause I know what we are in for. In the top 10 today, the WORST score was 68. You have to go down to 30th to find someone over par today. 200th ranked players and top ten players were pretty much equivalent. What a joke. (the conspiracy theorist in me suspects that they were worried that it would look bad for the women if their winning score was around 5 under when the men had just shot 18 under, so they made everything easier to balance the scales). I'll admit I stopped watching when Korda made an eagle-birdie run sometime around the 8th hole. They weren't showing any Koreans anyways, so I don't think I missed much. But I'll give credit to Jin Young for shooting a 67 and keeping herself within touch of the medals. She'll probably need to pull a Sabbatini tomorrow to get a medal, but I'll root like heck for her to make a statement. She's only two out of the silver, and even six back is not undoable. Really, at this point, it's Korda's to lose, so we know she won't be feeling pressure or anything, right? We haven't seen anyone cough up a big lead at an important event any time recently, yes? GO JIN YOUNG GO!! It's not even unimaginable that one of the other Sisters could catch fire and grab a bronze or silver from the outside. If one does, it will probably be Sei Young, who will be aiming at every pin tomorrow I guarantee it. I'm a bit bummed that Inbee in particular never caught fire, but she has been sort of in the doldrums (by her standards) most of the year. It's weird how much more she clicked in Rio when she had been playing so terribly coming in and had to deal with injuries. Well, whatever, maybe this will motivate her to stick around until Paris ). Sisters keep Hwaiting!!!! Eyes on the prize!!!

Consider it a sign of respect: As of this moment, if you go to the GC website, there's a square pic of Winbee with the headline:
WATCH NOW: Inbee climbing leaderboard early in Rd. Three of Olympics
Umm, she birdied the first hole ... trails by nine shots ... that's a CLIMB?!
**********
I turned on SBS Golf and they are showing a replay of the first round. I guess they don't have the best broadcast coverage rights available ... the broadcast just ended ... I'll keep it going, just in case they start showing Round Two later.
**********
At least Bianca is in good shape ... somebody better keep an eye on the SS Feng ... the heat index will hit 102F Friday at noon.

Round 3
Well, what can you say? The Sisters were given a chance to make a move today, they were given two more rounds instead of just one, and not a single one of them took advantage. That's just the way this year has gone: for whatever reason, they have not brought it in the big events.
I'm not going to spend time worrying about it. They are great players, every one of them, and they will have many more great moments to come. I'll still root for the (at this point) highly unlikely medal charge; but if/when it doesn't happen this time, sooner or later they will be back. As long as they go out there and try their best, I'll always be a fan!

I was curious about something, so I checked. How many Majors in a row have there been, stretching back to the last Olympics, where none of our four Olympians were a factor in the outcome? I define this as: they either won or were within four shots of the lead at the end?
It's downright statistically bizarre and shows just how weak 2021 has been even for the stars.
2021: Olympics: ? but closest is 8 back (Korda blowout?) Evian: None (best: Inbee 8 back) KPMG: None (best: Hyo Joo third but 9 back) Korda/Salas blowout USO: None (best: JYK/Inbee 5 back) ANA: None (best: SYK 7 back) PT/Lydia blowout
2020: USO: Jin Young Ko 1 back (Inbee 5 back, HJK DNP) KPMG: Sei Young WIN, Inbee 2nd (HJK, JYK DNP) ANA: None (SYK 9 back; HJK, JYK DNP) Brit: None (Inbee 4th but 6 back; SYK, HJK, JYK DNP)
2019: Brit: Jin Young Ko 2 back Evian: Jin Young Ko WIN, HJK 2nd USO: None (JYK, SYK 6 back) KPMG: None (HJK, Inbee 5 back) ANA: Jin Young Ko WIN
2018: Brit: None (SYK t-4th but 8 back) Evian: SYK 1 back, Inbee 3 back USO: HJK Lost in playoff (Inbee 9th but 10 back) KPMG: None (JYK 6 back) ANA: Inbee lost in playoff
2017: (JYK not on tour) Brit: None (HJK 7 back) Evian: SYK 2 back USO: None (SYK 6 back) KPMG: SYK 4 back (Inbee 6 back) ANA: Inbee 1 back
Some things that jump out:
Even with 2020, where at least one and as many as three skipped some events, we never had more than two Majors in a row where at least one of these four women were a factor. But in 2021, none of the 4 Majors or the Olympics have had any of them contend.
In 2019, Jin Young carried them. Hyo Joo was the only one of the other three who even contended, and she did it just once, at the Evian.
Some of the events where none of them contended were still good for other Koreans (for instance, 2019 US Women's Open, won by Lee6 and So Yeon 2nd; 2017 US Women's Open where 4 of the top five were Korean).
Inbee hasn't contended all that often; just at last year's KPMG, 2018 ANA, 2017 ANA
