It's hard to know exactly what to expect. From what everyone is saying, this course is playing long, which might make it hard for three of the four Sisters to contend. On the other hand, there is a long tradition of courses playing shorter than their advertised length. I noticed they moved up several tees during the men's event, so the Olympics golf committee is not above doing that for the women. So take 6,600 yards with a grain of salt. Also, there are some hard holes sprinkled in there. Hitting fairways will be at a premium, and notorious sprayers like Ariya or Thompson might run into issues, length or not. The putting doesn't seem super hard, but I noticed a bunch of times where the men missed what looked like fairly routine putts, so you never know. I feel like this is a better Korean squad than 2016, and they are more ready to seize the moment. This has not been a great year for the Sisters, especially in big events, but these are mentally tough women who can switch that around at any time. No better time than the present! The key for Inbee is for her to putt like she is capable of. I think her long game will sort itself out fine, and she just needs to make the 5 - 15 footers with regularity. For Jin Young, she needs to get back to her usual insane accuracy tee-to-green like she regularly had before the recent wrist problems. If she hits ~80% greens - and you know she has that in her arsenal - she will have tons of chances to make birdies. Hyo Joo has been pretty consistent all the way around. Her big challenge will be to handle the overwhelming moment. Sei Young is the biggest question. She has not had a good year by her standards. But she has improved since 2016, winning her first Major, and she has the X-Factor of having Dean Herden on her bag. And if this course does play like a birdie fest, there is no player better to handle that than Sei Young. Good luck, Sisters!!!!! Hwaiting!!

It's awesome that Se Ri gets to be a part of the Olympic experience that was not available to her during her playing days. Does any other country have a uniformed golf captain along for the ride?

The tee times for the Sisters: 8:14 AM: Jin Young with Nasa and Nelly 8:41 AM: Inbee with Lydia and Shanshan, the three Rio medalists 10:14 AM: Minjee with Tavatanakit and Popov 10:25 AM: Hyo Joo with Ariya and Ciganda 10:36 AM: Sei Young with Danielle and Hannah Green Sisters hwaiting!! Three Seoul Sisters on the podium! That is my dream anyway. And a 2-way playoff for the Bronze between the two remaining Koreans.

Round 1 Very good start for all four Sisters. Jin Young made a birdie right off the bat, but got a bit shaky after that. She got a grip on herself in time to finish with four late birdies and a 3 under total. Inbee was more generally solid, although she left a few birdies out there with some near misses. Other than an unfortunate bogey to finish, a decent 2 under. Sei Young just missed a birdie and also finished at 2 under, so at the moment all three are in the top ten and just a few back. Hyo Joo had the weakest round, but even she shot a 1 under 70. A few of the names struggled, none more so than Jutanugarn, who shot a 6 over 77. Saso shot a 3 over, and indeed in general it seems like the long hitters didn't seem to have any noticeable advantage. But you never know how they might set the course up tomorrow, so stay tuned. Sisters hwaiting!!

PS - During the broadcast, Rich opined that Se Ri Pak might be one of the most influential athletes in golf history. Paige replied, 'Name another one (who's more influential). Se Ri is the most influential athlete in the history of the sport'.
Wow, big props to Se Ri!

Nice hearing from Team USA and Korea, Kang and Inbee especially talking about the special nerves of competing at the Olympics. The top ladies of golf help keep golf credible in the Olympics, and that’s been paramount from Team Korea the past two editions.
Ashok getting her Olympic fame again, perhaps inspired by her Dow partner’s win last week.
I wonder if Jutanugarn is carrying a wrist injury a bit. They showed her at Evian kind of tweak her wrist after an awkward bunker shot, and her rounds since have been +2, +3, and now +6. After having to withdraw from Rio in 2016, I’d hate to think she’a injured again here.
LPGA’s front page article talks about Feng Shanshan’s swan song. Doesn’t say definitely that she’s packing up after the Olympics, or this season for that matter, but she does indicate that this will be her last Olympics.

These LPGA women are tough, they eat this kind of heat for breakfast. But naturally the Olympics people don't know this.
