Interesting stat that 4 of the top leading scorers on tour after the VOA are the Sisters. In Gee is FOURTH: Scoring Averages1 United States Nelly Korda 2892 42 68.857 11 2 Republic of Korea Inbee Park 2501 36 69.472 10 3 United States Jessica Korda 2786 40 69.650 10 4 Republic of Korea In Gee Chun 3141 45 69.800 13 5 Republic of Korea So Yeon Ryu 2518 36 69.944 10 6 Republic of Korea Jin Young Ko 2658 38 69.947 11 7 New Zealand Lydia Ko 3218 46 69.957 12 8 Australia Hannah Green 2660 38 70.000 11 9 Republic of Korea Hyo Joo Kim 2523 36 70.083 10 10 United States Lexi Thompson 3367 48 70.146 12 Yet they've barely contended this year. Why? I think this illustrates the theory I've had that the courses have been too democratized. By making them easy so that dozens of players can win who couldn't in the past, you get far more players who play well once or twice and crowd leaderboards, only to not be factors the rest of the time. Still, it's rather encouraging to see the Sisters all over this stat! (also notice that for all the first time winners and other hype in 2021, the ten players on this list are still the usual names you expect in a list like this).

Which is funny because setting up courses for low scores is the opposite of how I would do it to sell the sport.
The key is to get consistent winners aka superstars. The best way to do that is favor long hitters by making it super long and narrow with playable rough.

The easier course setups allows a lot more golfers to be in contention. The Tour has a lot more USA players than Korean golfers.. So their odds of someone getting hot is a lot better. It also diminish the better golfers having the advantage anymore. They don't care about the quality of golf the LPGA put out there. As long as the USA Golfers keep winning they will keep dumbing down the Courses.
It also doesn't help that the top Korean golfers keep skipping Tournaments.

It doesn't help that the Koreans are not having a particularly good season, but it's been made a lot worse by this love affair with low scoring events. I mean, Korda almost shot a 59 at the Olympics. There is no excuse for making that possible.

In 2021 the LPGA does not necessarily draw the best in the world IMO. At the same time the KLPGA and its minor leagues continue to advance. It seems like the east-to-west pipeline is drying up a little lately. And who could blame them. Hana Jang and Jiyai Shin left while at the top of their games, and they have both thrived outside of America.
