"Fear the Tree" - that's what it says on the Stanford yardage books ... and three cardinals have just made it to the Sweet 16 (Heck, Krauter and Seay).
Time to break the bad news to SoYeonFan - Stanford U. is utterly loaded for the 2021-22 season will roll over Southern Cal and everyone else. The three senior or 5th year players leaving the team were their worst players! Meanwhile, the Zhangster is coming in to join Heck, Englemann, Seay and Ye, who were all well-known during their junior days. Don't forget Aline Krauter ... never heard of her before, but she looked pretty good on Tuesday. They don't leave anything to chance having two ex-LPGAers as assistant coaches, Maddie Sheils and Kathryn Imrie. FEAR THE TREE!
*****
One of my picks from earlier today is still alive, Matthews beat Nachmann with a birdie at #18. Matthews pulls the trigger quickly after getting over the ball, and that includes her putts ... I think the tour turtles in the pros might drive her crazy.
Yes, most of the USC Trojan Golfers of last two years has Graduated. I haven't seen much on the incoming Golfers. Right now Malia Nam is the top Golfer I believe. I got the score wrong Alyaa made a bogey five on seventeen to fall one back. I saw the last hole but forgot about the tie. Rose Zhang interview, she talked about the mistakes she made. She didn't give Ellie credit for making birdie on four of the last five holes. Especially the clutch birdie on eighteen after Rose made birdie.

Malia is a nice looker ... I was hoping she and Kelly Sim would get through Tuesday night's 12-for-2 jungle playoff at the 1st hole, but it wasn't to be. How about two Kentucky Wildcats getting both spots with birdies?! Hollywood would have rejected that story line as too fake.
********
Yep, the seedings were a joke ... seven of the last sixteen players are ranked 53rd or worse!
The expert really stepped into it ... I played up Aline Krauter and she got her butt shelled 7 & 5 by Cara Heisterkamp (don't ask, I have no clue on her, just too many people there!). Meanwhile, Cranston did not Fear the Tree, she tried to cut it down, but it fell over on her 2 & 1 against Seay.
Hou was in trouble after six holes, but she turned it around knocked off some unknown named McMyler. In the Main Event, Heck and Matthews are A/S thru 14 ... is Peacock still broadcasting this? Its broadcast window was only 2 PM - 5 PM and its 5:20 PM now. This is like a pseudo Final, is anyone showing it LIVE?

They had driving distance hash marks on the 9th and 18th fairways and volunteers were jotting down the numbers after each drive, but I can't find this data anywhere on the USGA website. I clicked on the individual scorecards from the medal rounds, but they only show scores. Maybe someone will post it later? Among the earlier starters on Tuesday, Corey Lopez topped the 18th hole at 290 yards. The distances were less on #9 as it was uphill.
The course statistics for the medal rounds don't surprise me ... the toughest hole was the par-4 8th (which is the 17th hole for the members) ... it was played 312 times and yielded only six birdies. Inside the locker room was a local golf magazine that created a mythical perfect area golf course using the best holes from all the courses in the area ... and this was the hole they picked from Westchester CC.

A Ping gear rep was following Heck's medal round on Tuesday ... Heck plays Ping. I never noticed gear reps at amateur events before, but maybe they've been there all along. I saw no gear van on the premises, but this club probably has standard repair equipment on hand. If that doesn't work, a player could run down Rte. 287 to PGA Tour Superstore in a pinch ... I saw a player and her entourage coming out of there Wednesday night, but did not recognize her.
********
The most obscure bag I saw this week said George Fox University. What is that? I looked it up ... a Christian school about 20 miles SW of Portland, OR ... talk about an oasis in the desert. They sent Mackensie Toole who bombed out during the medal rounds.
********
Chantel McCabe followed the last nine holes of the Kuehn/Wenzler match Tuesday ... is she reporting or writing for anyone? I don't see her byline anywhere.

Brittany Shin has completed two years at Cal. State - Fullerton ... and was talking to the U. of Oregon coach (I think) before her Wednesday match ... and he followed along after the match started ... maybe a transfer is in the works?

All I can say is WoW!! ! Rachel Heck only needed two putts and the Match was hers. Unless Castle make a tough birdie. So instead of lagging for a tap-in, she putted three feet past the hole. Misses the putt coming back and get tied. Giving a new life Jensen Castle rolls in a birdie on the nineteenth hole. For an early Christmas gift.
Yu Ching Hou should have had an easier time winning after she went two up. She started missing putts and also shots on the middle of back nine. However Valentine Rossi played the last two holes terribly. Yu regrouped and hit it stiff on eighteen for two up win.

Earlier in the week, The Expert said Hou was capable of winning it all ... WAIT 'TIL NEXT YEAR!
Castle, 2 & 1

The pics below were taken on Wednesday when Brittany Shin played her first round match against Brooke Matthews ... I followed it for the first ten holes, then broke away when the outcome looked obvious (Shin got clobbered, 5 & 4).
Her IG postings confirmed my speculation that she was transferring from Cal. State - Fullerton to U. of Oregon for her last two college years. A good pick-up for the Ducks, Shin had a 73.66 scoring average at Fullerton, which is better than what most of her new teammates shot last year. She was a multi-winner junior from Florida ... I wonder why she went to Fullerton in the first place ... that's a great school for baseball. but it is Palookaville for women's golf.
She has an older sister by about ten years, Michelle Shin, who played golf with Cheyenne Woods at Wake Forest and the Symetra tour after that. I remember seeing the elder Shin at the 2009 USWO, she was built like a tank.
She needs a little more polish and going to a big-time golf school like Oregon might be the way to get it. Even on this recent swing, the ball flight looks like a pull.
