Oh! Amy Hong is tied for the lead! Good luck to her tomorrow. I think this would be her first pro win!

Round 3
Well, darn. At this point, the only things I'm still really rooting for are for In Gee to finish in the top ten (a top five would be even better) and for Jin Young to play well enough to hold onto her #1 ranking. Good luck tomorrow ladies! Hwaiting!!

Good luck tomorrow ladies! Hwaiting!! It could be better for everybody if Nelly had a 2-4 year run as numero uno or traded off periodically with JYK and others. Still astounded Korda was seemingly passed over by US sponsors. I think the check writers just ask people who follow the tour who is going to be good. Nelly needed to play in drive chip and putt.

That photo of Jin Young with her caddie broke my heart. As bad as things have been for the Koreans of late, I did not see her losing her #1 ranking any time soon. A terrible confluence of Nelly playing the best golf of her career at the same time Ko played her worst.
"Terrible confluence" is the theme of the Korean season so far.

So Yeon Ryu had a good start on the front nine, three birdies no bogeys. She must have sprained her ankle or something making the turn. How else could you explain her making three bogeys and a double bogey back nine. She did manage to finish the Tournament even, with a birdie on the par five eighteen. A strange year for the Korean golfers so far.

Meanwhile, all I can say is blecchh! to the results in Cincinnati today. I saw MacLaren play at Valley Forge in 2018 ... then or now, she doesn't do anything for me. The Symetra tour will tee it up two weeks later in Indiana. Erica Shepherd is a sponsor invitee and recently qualified for the USWA.

"Terrible confluence" is the theme of the Korean season so far. I wouldn't worry too much about the Korean golfers. As a group they are still the best golfers in the world. The only two that puzzle me are Lee6...who doesn't seem to be the same golfer she was a year or two ago, and A Lim who I practically gave the ROY award to. Remember that the season is only half over today. If the season continues the way it is going now it could be good for the LPGA because it certainly needs more American interest, and the Korean golfers will come back fighting mad next year.

On another note I am glad that I didn't have to read that you didn't bother to turn it on because none of your players are in contention (which I think you have said multiple times this year). As a fan of the American golfers it has been a tough last decade for me...but I always watch to the end....because I love the game and talent is talent no matter what country the winner plays for.

Great Tournament by ex USC Trojan Lizette Salas. I was hoping that she could pull out the win, but the Course favored longer Golfers with talent. With the win she could have joined ex USC Trojan Sophia Popov with a Major Win.
Great Tournament by Hyo Joo Kim, made birdie on seventeen and eighteen, for a top three tie.
Great round also for Amy Yang minus eight to tie for top six.
Sei Young Kim had a good round minus four to miss a top ten by one stroke.

Congrats to QCells and the Galleria for signing the most obvious future superstar since Mickey Wright.

Six has said she's working on swing changes, so I expect her to be pretty inconsistent for the rest of the year. Hopefully they will stick and next year she'll emerge even more amazing than before. A Lim was never one of the biggest names on the KLPGA. I would rank her as a second tier star; capable of a win here and there, but not someone who vies for top season ending awards. But she IS long, and on the LPGA, that is much more important than on the KLPGA. Her nearest equivalent is probably Mirim Lee, another strong and long second tier star who sometimes plays brilliantly. But, Kim's still not that old, so who knows, she might start to blossom eventually. To put it another way: every KLPGA player who has won a Major to earn her card was first or second (or recently had been) on the KLPGA tour when they won - except A Lim. Jiyai, In Gee and Hyo Joo were all #1 on the KLPGA the year they won the Major; Sung Hyun and Lee6 won the year after they were number 1; So Yeon had been #2 the year before she won (behind Hee Kyung Seo, whom she beat in the playoff). A Lim was not even in the top ten in 2020 and barely in the top ten in 2019.

Congrats to Korda on her win. I think they set the course up to benefit her, but she took full advantage and simply played better than everyone else.
I love the Sisters, but it's getting to the point where they barely register on Sunday. Congrats to Hyo Joo on her run and great finish, but she was never really in the hunt for the title, so as nice as a top three is, it's kinda like last week, where In Gee had the third but was just not going to win no matter what she did. Also shout out to Amy Yang for her 64; she's creeping closer to re-entering the top 40 again. Sei Young knocked herself out of the running early, but she climbed back nicely. I also want to give a tip of the cap to Jin Young, who could have phoned it in but still put together a nice weekend.
It was a bit frustrating that In Gee messed up the end of her round, because she had a good shot at a top 15 before that. Still slightly improved her ranking to 48.
I have to admit, I've pretty much lost interest in the LPGA. I didn't even watch a second of golf the entire weekend. Even if I have players doing well, they'll just ignore them so we can watch Wie West fumble about, and there aren't any faves of mine doing all that well right now anyways. Their bunny setups (even at Majors) is another big turn off. I'm so done with 25 under winning scores in general.
So I'm going to step away from the big tour for now. I'll come back as soon as we have an event where a Sister actually leads on Saturday going into Sunday, but until then I'm taking the pledge and not watching at all. I'm hoping this will be a short hiatus!
I'll still tune in for the Olympics, although I see no sign that the Koreans will contend for medals. And I'll keep watching the KLPGA. But yeah, enough LPGA for now.
