Lookout, Morgan has the double-strand pearls going today. News flash - she gave some info that I didn't know before (after being set up by Boone): A Lim Kim touches her left shoulder as she gets ready to putt, which is a tip from coach Ron Stockton that helps get her shoulders parallel to her putting line.
*****
Earlier in the day, The Old Ko is talking to her looper about how she plans to hit an approach iron into a green (maybe 130 yards out) and the guy (Derek Kistler, whoever he is) replies, "yeah, I like that." ... such reassurance, and then she hits it lousy and make bogey. Does Tina have Larry the Looper's number?
******
For someone who has $2,243 in the bank for 2021, Lauren Kim showed me a pretty sound driver swing at #15. With much less "visible effort", she is carrying her driver well past the stevedore thrusts of Leona Maguire.
******
Give credit where it's due ... Morgan said Min Lee is the only player she has ever seen hit balls cross-handed on the range (as a drill). Every course and booth analyst should be spending as much time as possible on the range, on the practice greens, in the short game areas, in the tour gear vans and maybe in the physio van, too. Do this to gather as much trivia as possible on as many players as possible (is a stack of index cards too old school? ). Then keep dribbling out these factoids during the broadcast ... if it is done enough, you won't have time to drone on about "grinders", "grinding" and "grinding it out".
BTW, I saw Charlie Owens hit cross-handed for real at the 1992 Bell Atlantic Classic (senior tour) ... low ball flight.
******
They said Min Lee just turned 26 ... I thought she was older than that. She has been hanging around the fringes of the LPGA for quite a while. She was gaming Akira Prototype (KS 301 model?) irons at the Seaview in 2019 ...wonder what she has now. The week before, she won with Larry the Looper at Valley Forge ... who did NOT follow her to AC. If my memory serves me correctly, she has pro wins in Red China and Taiwan ... it would be helpful is someone at GC did some homework tonight to confirm this.
******
Back to A Lim Kim ... there is much to like here: little fist pumps after making putts, smiles and laughs (the lousy mask appears to be gone for good ) ... the tour frumps haven't gotten to her (yet).
... and she is A-Okay in the visuals and stylin' departments ... works in classic FJ saddle shoes with some nice Fantom outfits and Druh belts. I'm drawing a blank on who wears this style of shoe now ... was Morgan the de-facto retiree the last one?
Her looper is not listed on the LPGA site this week, but he appears to be Graeme Courts, who has been with her all year. Past Getty pics indicate he was with The Hulk during HSBC luggage week in 2016, along with Weirsy at the 2019 Masters. Also had some work 12+ years ago with Rickie Fowler and Loren Roberts.

Really great round by So Yeon, a clean scorecard with five birdies. Hopefully she can follow that with another great round.
Sei Young Kim also had a clean scorecard with three birdies.
Jenny Shin is still there tied for sixth place at minus two today.
A Lim Kim with five birdies and two bogeys is just three off the lead. She will have a good chance to win if she can avoid the pitch outs, from missed drives.
Worth mentioning that Min Seo Kwak had her third straight seventy one.
I wonder if Da Yeon Lee will miss the Korean Open because she played this Tournament I am not sure how long she will have to quarantine when she return to Korea.

Yes, this is a dispatch from Fantasyland, but it really needs to happen: Da Yeon Lee says "Get Lost!" to the road apple policies and regulations of the ROK and the Mickey Mouse KLPGA minor league ... and says "Hello, America!" Don't go home ... take your Mediheal earnings from Sunday and start investing it in $500 clips for Monday qualifiers ... get into Symetra events if necessary ... and definitely get your money down for LPGA Q-series in the fall. Tell her I'll watch her play if she can get into Shoprite and/or Founders Cup in October.

If Da Yeon Lee leave the "so Call Minor League" she wont be missed. At least the KLPGA spend money so people outside Korea can watch their Tournaments. Not like the we think that we are better than anyone JLPGA, that block others from watching their Tournaments. If it wasn't for Yui Kawamoto and Kotone Hori I wouldn't care about the JLPGA.
Just because the U.S.A and Japan have more money than the small Country of Korea, don't make them better.

Round 3 It was a good day for the big name Sisters, especially So Yeon, but they are all probably too far back to take this one. Although you never know... I can't recall a final group full of three such low level players like this before. Lauren Kim looked sharp for the most part today, but it still seems likely she or her fellow leaders will come to Earth hard sometime tomorrow. If they do, A Lim is in a great position to take advantage. She isn't super consistent, but when she's playing well, we've seen what she can do. If she doesn't get the win I'll root for Jenny, if only to hear what accent she'll affect at the press conference... Sisters hwaiting!!!

I didn't mention Japan or the JLPGA, but since you did, that is also the minor leagues. Yeah, we razz the LPGA for this or that, but it is the Major Leagues of women's golf for prize money, player talent and course difficulty (when they pick a tough course). I can't see how this is up for debate. The one element that is minor league on the LPGA is lack of player recognition ... tell Da Yeon Lee that she could get a top-10 today, outplay Ryu, Winbee, BadAzz, and HoJo and no one in the GIC would notice it or care.

Lauren Kim sounds like a straight shooter with upper management written all over her.

Ariya also has a more classic look in the shoe department. Moriya isn't too far behind.

I am just saying that calling the KLPGA the Minor League. Is like their only purpose is to send players to the LPGA. They don't have the Money and prestige, but that don't make them inferior.
Edit: That been said, the LPGA is and probably always will be my favorite Golf Tour.

Just a comment on Pressel...
I can see how her voice might be annoying but I think content-wise she's better than most. I also think she brings a valuable perspective because she sees the Korean players as her peers and respected competitors, not an "other" to be disected and understood. I love how she legit fangirls out over Inbee. These days Inbee certainly gets respect but I often feel not quite enough simple awe. It makes me happy. I can relate. Ha, I notice she keeps breaking some (I assume) broadcaster rule about referring to players as "cute" with Jin Young Ko. I dunno, its just great to hear a commentator reflect my thoughts a little bit, and well, anything other than the same ole crap about being robotic.

Congratulation to Matilda Castren for her first LPGA win. She had a great front nine to open up a big lead on most of the field. She gave no shots back on the back nine to hold off Min Lee, the only golfer close to her.
"She also hit fourteen greens which means her putting hurt the most. I bet that she will have a good scoring weekend." I posted the above statement after So Yeon's second round. I just felt that how she played that round, she would score a lot better. That she did with ten birdies the last two rounds and zero bogeys. For a needed third place tie to get closer to the Olympic.
However she didn't get much respect playing her Sponsor's Tournament. First she had a terrible first and second round pairing. Then the Golf Channel only showed her hitting one putt. They sure showed a lot of Lucy Li who has done nothing so far as a Professional.
Kudos: To Jenny Shin for a nice top five.
The talk for Da Yeon Lee joining the LPGA can be put to rest with an eighty one today.
I was hoping, but this is not the type of Golf Course that A Lim Kim usually have success on.

Ok HappyFan, I'll agree now that this is a full-on slump. We need reinforcements. Send over Ha Na Jang and Hae Ran Ryu etc to do some damage.

Round 4 Another Sunday I skipped. As soon as I saw that that Finnish woman I've never heard of had a huge lead, I lost all interest. Plus I knew what the broadcast would be like. I'm betting they showed So Yeon putt out on the final hole but otherwise ignored her, and that A Lim only got token interest. Meanwhile, I'm guessing they couldn't show enough of Lucy Li, and I still haven't forgotten her trick with Apple when she was "amateur". Thank goodness So Yeon punched a top three, because with this weak field anything less would have been sad. I cannot understand Inbee's lack of success here, though. I had hoped after round one that she had a run at the title coming, and she followed that with a terrible second and never really recovered. Sei Young does tend to be streaky, so I'm not so surprised that she hasn't played well lately. You never know when she'll suddenly recover and be a factor again. Congrats also to Jenny Shin for a top five, but the Sisters can't keep depending on their second tier ladies. The stars need to step up like So Yeon did and start to contend. Immediately, ladies! The season is nearly half over! As for Da Yeon: yes, she had a horrible final round, but she had three decent rounds before that. Not bad for one of her first trips to the States. Sisters hwaiting!
