Good for Shanshan. She probably figured GC wouldn't cover the consolation match anyway.

Apparently, if you complain about a gal's vocal fry you are a misogynist. I don't care. Morgan needs to speak like a real announcer or I need to sharpen my No. 2 pencil. I don't mind her voice, and I think she gives some good insights - definitely has potential. But her wardrobe, what the heck? Grandmother one day, absurd 70s Vegas glitter the next. Pearls? for golf? Today her partner (what's his name in the booth?) joked in the lull during commercial break on GolfTV, "Morgan's wardrobe provided by....Siegfried and Roy." She let out a soft chuckle.

Agree Shanshan was smart to not play - Ariya must have been happy to not have to either. AAbsurd to have this right before US Open. And what's the point of a consolation match anyway? Seems like I followed this more closely than most on here, but today was a big letdown and anticlimax. First because I was rooting for the other semifinalists, and second because Popov and Ewing were so exhausted today their play was terrible. And really boring, mostly. This format has gotta change (esp for the high heat of Vegas). Or maybe I'm just not much of a fan of match play...

I was out yesterday and didn't start watching the finals until the 11th hole. I don't know how Popov could trail the entire match, she has a turbo gear and should never lose to Ewing ... and that 17th hole, what an embarrassment. Popov is gaming Callaway these days ... I looked up my report from her 2016 USWO qualifier to confirm she had Cobra sticks ... probably had Puma attire, but didn't those two brands have a break-up later?
BTW, I was wrong about no spectators, they certainly planned for some with that grandstand behind the 13th green. I could see it had white seats ... ALL of them were white.
This tournament is going to be three-and-out ... just like in 2010-12 ... and just like in 2005-07 ... and Mexico City in 2017 was one-and-done.
No payouts posted yet, so I don't know if all the pod dregs got paid equally.
Don & fanofseri, this is when the air officially went out of the balloon for this tournament. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - MAY 29: Eun-Hee Ji of South Korea, left, is congratulated by Jenny Shin of South Korea on the 18th hole during round four of the Bank of Hope Match-Play at Shadow Creek on May 29, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. I checked So Yeon Ryu Official Money before the Tournament completed. Her Official Money went up eighteen thousand after the Tournament. So they had a payout, but the geniuses that run the Tournament haven't figured out how to post it yet.
I earnestly thought that Sophia Popov would win that Match. I also thought that Danielle Kang would win, I was wrong twice.

Happy...Not sure you would have said nonsense if your player(s) were in final. I do agree with the rest of your statement though. I wouldn't want more than one of these on the schedule...but I do like having one, as it adds variety to the schedule. For sure I would enjoy it more if the breaks went the way of my favorite players. But these issues are always here in this format, just easier to deal with if more stars make it through. I don't even know what this result really tells us about how well the Sisters are playing at this point. Hopefully it isn't a foreshadowing of what to expect going forward...

I also thought that Danielle Kang would win, I was wrong twice. I was wrong about So Yeon vs. Mirim... and Jin Young Ko making match play... and Inbee... And we ended up with a terrible final to boot. Ah, match play. In a way, I guess the Sisters caught a break leaving early... The got some practice in, and didn't wear themselves out too much before the Open.

Good for Shanshan. She probably figured GC wouldn't cover the consolation match anyway. They certainly would have covered it, if only to fill the gaps when the other match is walking to shots. She made the right decision, but shouldn't she be penalized for it? I mean, I don't think this is a precedent the LPGA should allow, right? (and I agree that having this event before the Open was an idiotic idea, but everyone in the field knew the risk going in).

All that needs to be said about this event is Grant Boone's final play-by-play call:
"And now Ewing, for a double bogey for the win."
Is Popov sponsored By Footjoy? If so I think this would be a breach of contract for featuring the brand in a negative light.

Well, I assume there is a financial difference for finishing 4th instead of 3rd ... not that the amount would put a dent in her bank book.
Under the old format, this was a GREAT event to attend during the Round of 64 and Friday's round this week would have been just as good for spectators who get around from match to match ... this is lost on GC which will never figure out how to cover match play right.

I was as exhausted as the players watching the final match. I have to concede that Ewing and Popov aren't flash in the pans. They were seeded 15 and 19 after all. We came so close to getting an Inbee vs Danielle Kang final. That would have been something.
Good on Jenny Money to concede. I think she had Ariya in mind too in deciding to play more holes in the desert heat.
I heard during the broadcast that the course is not very spectator friendly. Also, MGM would chauffeur high-rollers to and from the course if they were in the mood to shoot a round.
