The rules sheet on the LPGA website says this -
Friday Playoff & Extension of Matches: Friday, when necessary, players who are tied for 1st in their group will begin a sudden-death playoff on Hole #1, playing the course in order to determine who advances to the Round of 16. Starting with the Round of 16, matches will extend to hole #10 and play the back nine in order to decide which player will advance to the next round.
So, if Nordqvist beats The New Ko on Friday, both will have a 2-1-0 record and start a playoff - Nordqvist does not automatically advance to the Round of 16 because she beat Ko head-to-head. That's how I read it.
Has anyone explained why there are no spectators? My guess is that NOT having fans made it easier to get this event off the ground in a very short time frame. They were not against all civilians ... certainly NOT the paying kind, as they had a pro-am on Tuesday.

Day 2 The Sisters had a much more impressive day on Thursday. Jin Young had to beat Masson today, given that it's almost a certainty she will beat Gulbis tomorrow. She did it, at last showing us some of what makes her great. She made a couple of very nice putts, but my fave shot was that one she pitched up in the air, landed on the fringe, then watched as it trundled down to the hole. It still got a little dicey, but fortunately she made the birdie she needed on the 18th. So Yeon was great today, and Inbee and Lee6 also lit it up. Inbee had three straight approaches to 2 feet that pretty much wrapped it up for her. The other Sister who blazed was Hee Young, who is now 2-0 after beating Sung Hyun. Sei Young still is underperforming, but took advantage of her length to make birdie on 18 and salvage another tie. She still has a slight chance of getting to match play. Sisters hwaiting!!

Does the US really match up that poorly to ROK in match play? The US just needs 12 good players with some chemistry and it would be a good match.

I hate this round robin stuff, it is a mess. Bring back single elimination. People don't much like watching golf matches on TV as it is, I really don't think lowering the stakes in an event will improve anything ever. All it really does is placate a few players who might whine about going home early.

So Yeon got about the worst breaks she could have imagined. Mirim suddenly finds her form to spoil her advance, then O'Toole makes a three putt on the last from close to lose to Ji, allowing Ji to win and tie Ryu. Ji then proceeds to beat Ryu in the playoff. I guarantee you Ji will lose her next match, so it's very frustrating not getting a chance to see So Yeon in match play.
This is the way it's been all year for the Koreans. Feng just hit a fifty foot eagle putt to inches to eliminate Lee6 on 18. HYP is gone, Jin Young is on the ropes (Nordqvist just made a long birdie to go three up). Inbee alone has advanced. Sigh.

Sei Young beat Altomare in their match, then lost their playoff. Literally the first playoff she has EVER lost on the LPGA. Just a cherry on the crap sandwich.
Ko lost big to Nordqvist. OK, Jin Young, enough goofing around. You are far better than either Nordqvist or Masson. When this playoff happens, you need to dust them. Sisters hwaiting!!!!

Add So Yeon Ryu to the playoff loss, same as Sei Young Kim, a bogey on the second playoff hole. Couldn't believe that she lost to Mirim Lee in the first place. Why do my favorites sometimes performs so bad under pressure. Won the first two matches easily and didn't show up for the pivotal Match.

I'm in blackout mode, not looking at online leaderboard, or comments on this board. I don't know if this broadcast is live or not ... but for cryin' out loud, Gimmee and JTibs are in a playoff and we saw almost none of it. Instead, they waste my time with Olson and Ernst.
*******
Pressel mentioned that Greeeny ran her mouth regarding Reid ... just a moment before she dunked her ball at #18 ... bad karma is a b****.
*******
In the last two days, gotta love how Boone and Abbott mentioned Aza winning the 2012 Match Play with Pressel sitting in the both.
*******
At the par-3 13th, The New Ko (who played lousy) scaled a wall of rocks to get to the green ... ... not a wise move IMHO.

Well one thing the LPGA Koreans Golfers have to look forward to is no Match against the KLPGA Golfers this year. Where they would probably get thrashed in Match Play again.

Why doesn't GC just admit they don't have enough cameras to cover this tournament? And yet, they choose to utilize their limited resources to cover matches that are 4 up, rather than close matches or playoffs.
It isn't Pressel's fault that she has an irritating nasal quality, but it is her fault that she plays favorites (i.e. American) and speaks almost exclusively in clichés. Zero insight.
I imagine Morgan would answer a question about her commentary by saying, "I'm having fun out there and not paying attention to the other commentators. I'm just saying one word at a time and we'll see where I end up on Sunday."

Didn't take long for Jin Young Ko to get eliminated, a bogey on the first hole. At least Jenny Shin got a win, however Alison Lee made it easier with a seven.

The Pepperdine slacker gave the Southern Cal student-athlete a good beat-down. That's ok the ex USC Golfer Sophia Popov will take care of that upstart Pepperdine ex Golfer. Do only the top sixteen get paid, they don't give a lot of information for a Professional Tour.

Lots of technical problems on the telecast. From the banter during commercial breaks (no commercials on GolfTV, just dead air with video, or if commentators don't turn off mics, their banter), seems like wifi went out around the course. The commentators were complaining that they were getting no information. But yes - coverage was horrible, esp for the first 2/3 of broadcast. And this Jenny Shin interview - maybe as quirky as expected? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zb7ZgsQwsRM

You just complimented him four days ago for strong-arming The Bank of Hope(less) ... you goofball.

I checked my tally sheet ... of the 24 losers from Wednesday, 5 made it to the Round of 16 (Reid, Nordqvist, Ewing, Shin and Feng), which is higher than I thought it would be. As someone who attended five Round-of-64 elimination rounds (the old format) in 2005-06 & 2010-12, I've come to the conclusion that the round to attend in the current format is Round Three of the Round-Robin. That's where you get the most action and drama ... the first two days are mostly a waste of time.

I'll bet that's Butch Harmon (FJ shirt) in the back seat.

Nat Nat's ball-striking looked lousy ... she was gaming TaylorMade SIM shovels, which is about her speed ... I remember she had TM Burners at Westchester in 2015. Masson really dropped the ball not winning that match.
