Well the gang is all here. No name players are skipping this event (Even Shanshan is in the field).
As usual (not counting last year), this will probably be the strongest field of the year.
My field rating is a 86.5% (up from 71% last year when the pandemic weakened the field substancially).
The breakdown is an incredible 94% from the Priority list, and a very high 79% from the Rolex Rankings.
The high Rolex Rankings can be contributed to non-LPGA members included in this field.
They include: Yuka Saso Erica Hara Emily Pederson Hinaka Shibuno

One thing I've observed is that this Malaysian gal does not handle it well when the weather is cold. Last week: +7 on Thursday, -1 on Friday. It's a new week, and the weather is warm. https://www.instagram.com/p/CNBgzQSrBep

The obligatory airport departure pic for Yui ... I'm surprised NOT to find any for Shibuno and Hara (yet).

The UV umbrella I purchased two years ago has never been opened. It's large enough for two. I evisioned walking side by side with Dr. Won Park dicussing Sam Snead's exquisite golf swing. The LPGA is off to a slow start in 2021.

Defending champ Mirim Lee, with an interpreter who sounds like she's in a tunnel somewhere.

Defending champ Mirim Lee, with an interpreter who sounds like she's in a tunnel somewhere. Did she just call her 'Miriam Lee'? ARGH!!!

She definitely called her "miriam" several times. And the translator seemed to be spacing out quite often, which was obviously annoying Mirim. Surely they should have better Korean translators by now on the tour.

The LPGA is in the middle of a transition. A skilled professional like Diana Murphy could help bridge the gap. That reminds me, a role model & good golfer like Bethany Lang is long overdue.

If these things stay on the same week I think the net effect will be something like a women’s golf week in the media. (The correct response is to have an event at Pasatiempo to show the green jackets what an Alister MacKenzie course is supposed to look like.)
The 18th hole looks much better this year.

Erika Hara gets chills from the stinky swimming pool
I assume Yuka Saso has played here at least once before as an amateur
Shibuno Fever practicing with only wedges and her putter. It seems she is not under a clothing contract and is showing her ankle to Adidas on Tuesday, but has still been wearing her Beams apparel on the JLPGA in 2021.

2019 ANA champ. No interpreter needed... 2020 KIA champ. Doesn't need "driveable par fours" to win...
