Round 1 Pretty solid day for the Korean stars overall. Jin Young is just so good. Even on this tricky course she managed 16 greens. If she had putted a wee bit better it would have been insanely great. Well, three more days to get the flat stick rolling. Inbee was not her best but still shot a tidy even par. So Yeon had one bad hole she never fully recovered from, but +3 is not out of it. When she won in 2011, she came back from seven back half way through. I hope In Gee is ready to step it up a little; don't want her flirting with missing the cut. And how about Six? Not only a great day, but gave her entire presser in English. She's amazing. Hwaiting!!

Short and sweet with Lee6. I was also watching on SBS feed, and on the USGA app - which is worth downloading. Eager to see what the sisters do tomorrow - many are lurking, and anything +4 or below surely has a shot with a good round tomorrow. Shin a bit surprisingly at +1 (which must make FanofSeri happy! hehe)
My fav SHPark is, sadly, pretty much gone already at +6. She really needs to hire a coach to try to straighten herself out. Not sure I believe Namdalla can do it on her own anymore.

SBS Golf is running a replay of Round One ... Pak Ji Eun is doing the color - I thought I recognized her voice.

Megan Osland shot 90 and dropped out ... I assume they don't have an 88 rule in place. I'm not surprised that Leigha Devine (86) of Rutgers(!) came back to Earth. Chloe Kovelsky (the GIC replacement for Team Pano) bombed with an 81. RLB (76) in the last group was hitting out of everyone else's divots ... a strongly-worded letter to the course concierge is forthcoming.

Is there a consensus that the course played tougher in the AM? Pics show ear muffs and ski caps among the early starters. If true, then maybe MHL won't get kicked to the curb Friday night.

This I did NOT need to see ... what is this crap with the mask? The Rocket never did this before.
Hikari Kawamitsu ... this landscape sure beats the concrete Lego forest surrounding many KLPGA courses.

So Yeon Ryu has some work to do after a plus three round. Four bogeys and a double bogey is not the start she wanted. She hit only nine greens, maybe 236 yards driving distance had something to do with it. Comparison Jin Young Ko diving average was 261 yards, I am not sure how long that she has played with those Titleist Clubs. I don't remember seeing her with them before, or I just didn't pay attention. So Yeon signed with Titleist at the beginning of the season. She had the new clubs in her bag at the Kia Classic. Thanks argonne69, you always give me needed information. I am not a fan of Titleist clubs, but So Yeon has been playing pretty good this year.

Speaking of Titleist, I was not aware that Anna Nordqvist dumped the "Ka-Boom, baby!" brand for that old standby in 2021 ... and I don't think she got paid to do it.

This is great ... MHL has already made the cut and doesn't tee off for almost another two hours.

Beams Golf lost Shibuno Fever this year, but have Chihiro Kogure (a) in the pipeline ... I assume she checked out of her motel room this AM.
The defending champ showed up today, -2 on her first 12, but it's probably too late.

Based upon the comments I've read on GolfWrx, TV "analysts" Tripped Eisenhaur and Amanda Boomenhurst were plucked off the 'D' list to cover the ladies.

MHL opened with three pars...par is GOOD here! Still playing the AutoPower shaft in the driver ... I assume the S3 is still her ball choice; most Volvik staffers play it over the S4.
What a CROCK

Heckuva second round by Ganne during typical SF chilly AM conditions. Her swing looked quite sound at Spring Lake, but she's NOT another Cyborg at the 2017 USWO ... but maybe she's better than Jenny C. at the '98 USWO.
*****************
As of now, the top-60 plus ties are at +4, but the projected cut line at the USGA site is +6 ... I guess they think scoring will get worse. If so, then Ee Da Yeon at +7 is still in the mix. Oh crap, MHL just doubled a hole and is also +7.

Great round by Jeongeun Lee6, minus four today, one off the lead.
Good round by Inbee of minus two just four off the lead.
Kudos: To the minus one group today, Sei Young Kim, In Kyung Kim (surprise), In Gee Chun, Hyo Joo Kim. Ok, A Lim Kim minus one but didn't make the cut.
So Yeon Ryu I thought played better than she scored. She had two three foot putts for par lip out because she hit them to hard. Why do golfers think that they have to hit the back of the hole on short putts. Hitting them hard enough to get over the front lip will do the job. She also had some maybe twenty foot putts that just missed going in.
Jin Young Ko just wasn't sharp today, not much else to say about her round.
Edit: I wonder how So Yeon made bogey on the 484 yard par five from the middle of the fairway.

Momoka Miyake bombed out, although she had a brief TV view on Friday when she rolled in a long curling birdie putt. Tom Abbott said she played on Japan's "Setup" tour. Actually, that's a plausible mistake ... you're setting yourself up for a better tour one day.
Her most unusual ensemble from Thursday -

Round 2 A little more of a struggle for the Sisters on day 2, but there were also big highlights. Obviously the star of the day was Lucky Six, who went on a three birdie tear near the end of her round to secure a spot in the final group tomorrow. Inbee did exactly what she needed to do: her 69 made her the all time record holder for most under par rounds at the US Women's Open. Other highlights include Sei Young Kim nearly holing out on 18 and Hyo Joo nearly dunking it by gently tapping the flag a few holes earlier. So Yeon and Jin Young just didn't have it today. Ko seems to be trying to get back her best stuff after her minor wrist issues. So Yeon and In Gee both had decent days, but being so far back at day's start, they needed something much better to get back into the mix. Still time to make something happen! So how far is too far back? Well, consider that anything can happen at an Open. If someone plays well on the weekend, even 7 or 8 shots can be made up. And given the leaders are mostly not used to this situation, the lead score could well end up sinking back towards par. So I think anyone 3 or even 4 over shouldn't give up just yet... Sisters hwaiting!!!

I'm more impressed by Amateur Ganne's even-par second round than her first. She's hanging tough so far.
A lot of the "old" ladies got swept away by the cut. It made me curious to see who in the top ten was the oldest. Mel Reid turns 34 in September.
Hoping to watch an epic battle between Saso and Six today. Plenty of TV coverage. Jenny Money and the HOFer are paired together for the third straight time.

Liu and Lin in the same group on Saturday and only ten spots separate them on the RR ... very interesting.

A pile of crap on my carpet is a stack of tee sheets and media guides going back years ... the 2009 USWO tee sheet for Round Two includes Gimmee! I didn't know she was there ... I don't know if I saw her ... heck, I didn't know who she was ... just a baby back then.
