Did Lexi look at the scoreboard at #18? Certainly she must have known that leaving that downhill par-putt SHORT would knock her out of a possible playoff. I'm watching on SBS Golf ... has GC mentioned the name of Lexi's looper? He's getting some abuse on GolfWrx, but is he really to blame? What lousy iron approaches she made on 17 & 18 ... that's not on him. I don't recognize him, has he been a regular for her? Maybe she would have been better off with someone named Thompson on her bag.
I guess the ratings at TV WOWOW are through the roof now. Saso carried her drive 271 at #9 and got some wicked roll out after that. I'm convinced more that ever that she is utterly bored playing in Japan and may do something about that RIGHT NOW.

Congratulation to Yuka Saso for some clutch shots and clutch putting for the win. Kudos, to Nasa for solo second.
Jin Young had a pretty good round of sixty nine for seventh place tie. Ditto: to Inbee Park also a seventh place tie.
Jeongeun Lee6 didn't have a good round today. But she had another really good U.S Women Open Tournament.
So Yeon Ryu had a terrible start with a bogey four of the first five holes. However she made birdie on two of the last three holes, to finish inside the top twenty five.
A shout out to SBS Golf for it's coverage, a station that really cares about Women Golf.

Lexi did have that meltdown and Yusa came full circle to win it. Crazy stuff.
Today I learned that Megan Khang and actress Kathryn Newton are friends. Newton was a the course to cheer Khang on.

I'm another who watched the whole thing on SBS - well, got up this morning only at 4am (Singapore) and figured it was over, with Lexi 5 shots clear. Kinda regretted waking so early for a while - ahaha, but then the fun started. Became more and more possible-seeming that she would blow it, or at least back up into a playoff. Sad for Six - her putter never really got going. Saso did take that 5-year LPGA membership - smart move. She can play out there.
I understand only maybe 1/4 of the Korean commentary on SBS, but the voices are so soothing, I find. And most glad this morning not to have to hear US announcers talk about Lexi. USGA app worked well for the feature groups too. The USGA AR app not so good - a very slow, user-unfriendly version of what you can see every week on the klpga site.

Round 4 Congrats to Saso on winning despite nearly completely blowing it before coverage even began. Much as I predicted, Head Case Thompson found a way to utterly choke away her seemingly sure win, but alas by that point none of my faves were anywhere to be seen. To be honest, neither was I. I wonder if I'll ever watch a Sunday on the LPGA ever again? Sure hasn't happened much lately. This week I made it until Thompson got to 8 under, then switched it off and got an amazing amount of cleaning done! For the Sisters, it was another major bummer in a season chock full of them. It was heartbreaking to watch Six fall apart after she had played so well all week. Guess she can cancel her tickets to Tokyo. That dream is dead. She didn't even manage a top ten in the end; we don't even get satisfying near misses anymore. It's particularly hard to take because all she needed was a 70 to make that playoff, and that was with all those short putt misses from Saturday. Oh well. Real hard to look for positives... I guess Inbee and Jin Young salvaging top tens despite not having close to their A Games is the best I can do. Yay! 7th place! Boo yah. So Yeon at least managed a top 25, keeping that streak alive. The week kind of reminded me of last year's ANA, but without an unexpected Sister chipping in from everywhere to steal the title. It's hard to recall that long ago , but in 2020 the first Major (British) was dominated by an unknown with the Sisters not doing much, and at the second (the ANA), only one managed a top ten; she just happened to win. This year it's been kinda the same, with this second Major having only two Sisters in the top ten. But as we know, the Sisters eventually turned things around in 2020 and started playing much better the second half of last year. There are signs here and there that Inbee, Ko and maybe Ryu at least can start getting some hardware soon. But for now I'll have to be patient and hope I have alternate plans for my Sundays just in case. Sisters hwaiting!

Love Saso. Wish they could all win a major to get the coverage and respect they deserve.

Tough break for NASA ... does she ever cut the ball? Her irons out of the left rough were pretty good during the playoff, but she did herself no favors by being there in the first place.

Two of Friday night's washouts, Scavo and Garvey, will tee it up in today's LPGA qualifier at Lake Merced. Cheyenne Woods was in the field earlier, but changed her mind. The ex-Wolfpack Cannuck Naomi Ko will also be there.

Not surprised at all about Saso accepting LPGA membership immediately ... has played in the U.S. a lot and should have no trouble adapting. I did not take notice of her at the 2016 U.S. Girls and USWA events, but she was on my radar at her 2018 USWO qualifier at Canoe Brook:
On the other hand, Yuko Saso’s family was giving her encouragement after she blew the tournament with a morning 80.
Super am Yuka Saso of The Philippines was next on the agenda as she continued her afternoon round at the par-4 1st hole. LoudMouth apparel might have first dibs when she turns pro. She had a lime green top with a white belt and green w/ orange trim flowery pants. After watching her bomb her driver at the par-5 2nd hole, she might be the Philippines “Terminator” one day, but has a long way to go.
I'm not sure about her swing back then, but it is better than Sung Hung's NOW. As for her drab attire these days, let the bidding war start NOW ... maybe that's the message.

Question: Since the USO is also in the western time zone (Torrey Pines), will they play the final round in threesomes so NBC can get these people OFF its airspace by 7 PM EST?

Question: Since the USO is also in the western time zone (Torrey Pines), will they play the final round in threesomes so NBC can get these people OFF its airspace by 7 PM EST? NBC couldn't win either way when the playoff bled into prime time, which initially pushed the US Olympic Gymnastics Trials onto CNBC. The Twitterverse lit up with gripes from fans of both sports, especially when they switched the sudden death playoff over to the Golf Channel. This problem definitely will NOT happen with the men as even without Tiger in the mix it's all about the Benjamins with the bean counters at Comcast. Even without ad breaks on the coverage having as many eyeballs as possible watching helps their bottom line overall.Kevin

I rooted against Thompson at the start of the day but the eventual meltdown was so awful, it stopped being fun. Actually wished for her to make that putt on 18 to tie. I'm worried for her now. This was probably her most coveted title, and it was in hand. And yet afterwards she went full on 'serenity now'. Come on, we all know what happens at the end of that Seinfeld episode.
Yuka Saso impressed me on several different levels. Her all-around game on Saturday showed some exceptional quality, I thought. And Sunday as the pressure increased, her play got better. She sank that par putt on 2nd playoff hole with so much pace I actually stood up and cheered. Fearless and committed, the opposite of that sad Lexi putt.
After the win I was impressed with Yuka's grace and poise while being harassed with some really stupid NBC interviewing. Even got a little verklempt when she shouted out Rory. Something quite genuine about the way she comes across, and with zero help from the TV morons. I consider myself as big a SS supporter as anyone but I'm gladdened by the recent success of Japan, Thailand, and now Phillippines, I think it's good for the sport. Seoul Sisters aren't going anywhere. Last I checked they still have a firm grasp on the top 3 world rankings.

I just wish the Sisters were treated with half the respect those other countries' players are. When Shibuno won, they couldn't stop gushing about it. When Mirim Lee won, all they could talk about was the fricking wall. She didn't even get a prime tee time at her next event. I have no idea why Korea seems to always be the target of their bile, while being so welcoming to Thailand or Japan. As for the rankings, it's generally the case at any one time that one to three of the big stars are playing at or near their peak. So, if Inbee isn't feeling it that week, Sei Young or Jin Young might be. But you can really tell that this is a rare time when none of them are at their best. They used to joke about Jin Young hitting a disastrous shot when she was 5 feet off of dead straight. Lately she seems to be in the tall grass all the time. If she could have brought that 80% GIR this week, what a difference she could have made. Amazingly, Inbee has been in the top 15 EVERY event she's played this year, but she's only contended once, the week she won. When Ko, Park or Sei Young are at their best, it's like they are playing a different game from everyone else. They can make even great golfers like Lydia or Jutanugarn look foolish. When they are at 80 - 90%, they're still great, but just not the same. Watching those amazing but disrespected ladies do extraordinary things is the main reason I watch the LPGA. I'm still hoping they will be peaking soon and we can get a few indelible memories to cherish.

I have no idea why Korea seems to always be the target of their bile, while being so welcoming to Thailand or Japan. Because they are the best, dummy. I've grown to enjoy the bitterness. Every passive aggressive slight, every indulged stereotype, every mispronounced name... the disrespect is an unconscious respect. This is not complicated IMO. They were feeling threatened as far back as the Carolyn Bivens era, and in the time since Korean players have only gotten more successful. Stomping all over the USWO has to be especially hurtful. At the same time American golfers have not really improved their lot, have they. There is much to be bitter about, I actually feel bad for the fan of American women's golf, this is such a ridiculous scenario. I am tempted to draft an essay and send it to the Atlantic, about how ladies professional golf is a possible bellwether of a broader American backslide or some shit like that. There is no reason Americans should be doing this poorly. Americans created the LPGA, they have far greater per capita golf resources and money than anyone, not to mention a way bigger population to draw from. American kids' math scores have been sucking for some time now, maybe its time to turn a critical eye on their golf scores too.

I have no idea why Korea seems to always be the target of their bile, while being so welcoming to Thailand or Japan. Because they are the best, dummy. Maybe that's all it is, but I think there is an additional factor: the sheer number of great Korean golfers must seem overwhelming. Every time it looks like you've seen the last of them, another one excels at a Major or in Q-Series. The list of ten great Koreans from 2021 is rather different from 2015 and from 2011. As long as there are only one or two great Thai players, they'll probably be tolerated, but if they hit five or more, the snarky nonsense may start for them, too.
