Good stuff Happyfan. Reading these articles I am struck by what a good year it was for the SS, even as two of the biggest names made no noise. And all of the disses, snubs and sundry discriminations perpetrated by the western golf establishment, they are unfortunate, but the cost of being top dog I guess. The behavior is shameful yet at the end of the day I feel for them. They must feel like their stuff is being stolen from them.

I understand why they feel they must prop up the American stars, but some of these arguments they make are so frustrating anyways. The wall ruined a dreamy finish she says -- and yet, two of the three players she was rooting for ended up in a playoff. And the third player (the one she didn't want) chipped in for eagle to get there, which is incredible. How was anything "ruined"? I don't know how many times I've heard them talk about Webb's hole-out for eagle on the final hole a dozen years ago. This is only slightly less amazing than that (and Lee did it THREE TIMES), but what do you want to bet we never hear about it ever again? For that matter, re: the ratings complaints... This event had two very popular players in a playoff. Yes, Mirim won, but fans of Henderson and Korda didn't know that at the start of the day. Those western players got most of the airtime, and Korda was ahead or tied for the lead literally until the final hole. If the ratings suck, instead of blaming the Korean, how about blaming the lack of star power of the Americans and Canadians? Anyone who is a fan would tune in to see them, right? Sigh.

I'd have liked to see more TV coverage of Yealimi Noh last season, but she didn't deserve it. The best thing about her was that she made 15 out of 16 cuts. Otherwise. she's remarkably mediocre with only two Top-10. She's way behind Hae Ran Ryu at this point of their respective young careers, which isn't a good sign if she desires to be a future No. 1.

Thanks for the input. I would respond that Yealimi was 26th on the money list, which is pretty darn good for a woman not yet out of her teens. She didn't just get two top tens, she had two top threes, both of which she almost won. And even if that makes her mediocre (I personally disagree), she still was better than Fassi hands down. And she's American.

And she's American. Jennifer Kupcho is white and an American and she ranks way higher than Maria Fassi too. Did you see they hype Jennifer as much as Maria? Of course No! A star quality is hard to quantify; they aren’t pure numbers nor stereotypes. As you know, I’m Yealimi’s biggest fan; I know Yealimi is as disappointed as her fans on her 2020 season. She’ll be devastated if She doesn’t win before July 26, 2021.

My argument is that Yealimi clearly has tons of star quality, unlike Kupcho. She's younger, for a start, and let's be frank, much better looking. I believe that Noh is going to need to do her growing on tour, which is why I never expected her to become a big star right out of the gate. She just doesn't have the experience the other ladies have. My latest SS awards post talks about her; check it out!

I have wondered how sponsorships contribute to the treatment of certain Americans by the media. Specifically Yeahlimi and Nelly Korda. IMO without this theory, the ongoing snub/blacklisting of Nelly makes very little sense. Yes I know she is a little bit quiet and shy... but when has that ever stopped media from trying to create a media star. Maria Fassi is as boring and wooden as anyone out there, that doesn't stop them. See also Rickie Fowler. I notice that Maria Fassi wears TaylorMade on her hat, while Yeahlimi and Nelly's hats bear names with zero meaning for western viewers. I admit that I am paranoid in general, but I don't think this factor is insignificant.
