I watched the broadcast on and off. One of the few players to hold my interest was Nanna Cursed Mad Koerstz Madsen (-6). She appeared to be in a good frame of mind today and why not ... no bogeys. The bf is not on the bag this week ... probably no significance to that as she had a T-13 with him at Aronimink.
One news item provided by the broadcasters is that Minjee is shot mentally over the speed control of her putter ... has no solution at the moment. It was on display near the end of her day ... had a putt from a collar that was not terribly long and left it terribly short.

Sei Young Kim is off to a head start over Inbee for Player of The Year. I have a slight preference for Sei Young to win it because Inbee has been there done that.
Jin Young is off to a great start with lots of birdies. So she is in great shape for the win. Don't expect the par five Queen to have twenty six putts again.
So Yeon had another pedestrian start of minus one. She didn't miss any fairways, which is not hard with 240 yard drives I guess. Her driving distance has really gotten shorter since the change from the Homna driver. Having thirty one putts didn't help her score either

Round 1 How can you tell this is a bomber's course? Well, when you see Masson and Fassi near the top of the leaderboard, that's a pretty good sign. Solid start by Jin Young; I'm hoping for something great from her in the next two rounds. Sei Young is back to her previous self. Alas, she is not eligible for the Vare because she didn't play enough rounds. Too bad, because the best qualifying score is Danielle Kang's, more than a stroke worse! That win is going to have a big asterisk by it in the record books! Inbee struggled with length and her putting today, and still broke par. Not so great a day for In Gee. I sure hope she has it in her to make one big run this week and leave the year with a top ten. Sisters hwaiting!

This championship is suppose to be for only the best players on the LPGA tour. It doesn't seem to be that way this year. Because of the pandemic several big names either didn't play in enough tournaments to make enough money to qualify, or didn't play at all. Others, with all the weeks off between tournaments, never got on the right track. Ali McDonald Ewing, a winner this year, could not attend. My field rating is a very disappointing 58% (62% from Priority List, 54% from Rolex Rankings) down from 68% last year. Players that usually play in this event but are not teeing it up this week because of one of the above reasons include: Jeong Eung Lee6 Sung Hyun Park Hyo-Joo Kim Mi Jung Hur Shanshan Feng Eun-Hee Ji Ali Ewing Bronte Law Su Oh Mi Hyang LeeMarina Alex Chella Choi Annie Park In-Kyung Kim Sandra Gal Pornanong Phatlum Angel Yin
I corrected it ... are you trying to give me a heart attack?!
Hope the medics were nearby when you found out she withdrew.

Nana Madsen must have lost her temple again, started bogey, double, quad, bogey. That's what it has to be because she is a decent gofer.
Edit: I guess Nanna cooled down, after the terrible start, finished with three birdies.

Great round by Jin Young Ko, minus five lead by one shot.
Sei Young Kim birdie four of the first five holes. But two bogeys and one birdie after that, still only one out of the lead.
Inbee Park also made birdies on four of the first five holes. But she had a double and a bogey after that. They are the only three Korean Golfers that shot under par today.
So Yeon Ryu had another lackluster day, missed only four greens. But her putting hasn't been good, she had thirty three today. Still has a chance on the weekend to put together too good rounds.

What is with the great starts and then go the other way. Nasa Hataoka had seven birdies her first ten, but finished with a double and three bogeys.

Round 2 This is getting interesting! First Inbee started her round with four early birdies. But just as it looked like she would become a factor, she doubled and never really recovered. She's T-20th. Then Sei Young did pretty much the same thing, running up to 9 under par before she, too, made some mistakes. Finally, it was Jin Young's turn, making two straight on the back nine to move to a lead at 9 under. So much is on the line. If either Sei Young or Jin Young win, they also lead the money list. If SYK grabs a top five, she can also become Player of the Year. Sei Young can even become world's #1, but she needs to win. #1 vs. #2. I sure hope the broadcasters focus on what could be a very exciting battle! Hwaiting!

Very exciting!
JYK would need SYK to finish a few back to get the money list. There's 640K and change between them right now and the prize is 1.1M. Would be close anyway. Depends on Inbee too.
I expect more of the same from JYK, but really not sure about SYK. She's obviously playing well, but her game doesn't seem as on point as when she's winning.
Lots of heat on their backs too. Green looks in scary good form. And, as much as I hate it, doesn't seem like Lexi will just go away. Hall and Ernst have won this year. Old Ko goes low again and she's in it. Nelly hasn't been in form.. but it's Nelly.

The total purse is only $3.0 million; the winner's share of $1.1 million is nothing but a gimmick. They might as well ran it as a winner take all event. The second prize is $258,000; equivalent to the second prize of a $2.8 million event.

If I understood correctly, the CME payout will be different next year.

If I understood correctly, the CME payout will be different next year. The purse was $5.0 million and winner got $1.5 million in 2019; 2021 will be the same as 2019. Normally, the winner of a $5.0 million tournament gets $750,000; the $1.5 million has always been a gimmick.

The result of this tournament will be significant--to this golf fan at least--in that currently six LPGA events have each been won in 2020 by Korea and the US. Most likely this will be the tiebreaker.
Loving Steve Stricker on the field mic. Always been fond of that guy.
