Player/Author Kelly Tan writes another article for The Star. www.thestar.com.my/sport/golf/2020/11/29/heading-down-final-stretchHeading Down the Final Stretchby Kelly Tan It is that time of the year when celebrations in the United States focus on the American holiday of Thanksgiving. That is how fast 2020 has gone by – in the blink of an eye, despite Covid-19 trying to stop the world turning around each day.
Now, we have reached the last stretch of tournaments on Tour, starting with this week, the beginning of December.
I’ve been putting in a lot of preparation in order to gear myself up for a strong finish to the season – one which I must say has been good so far.
The three tournaments left on the LPGA calendar are the Volunteers of America Classic, the US Women’s Open and the CME Group Tour Championship, each with its own merits and each with strong and limited line-ups.
The last two events on the calendar are my favorites.
The US Open in particular has always been tough to play with top players from all over the world, including amateurs, having a go at winning it.
This year will be my third appearance in the US Open and when it is staged at the Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas (Dec 10 to 13) I will do my best. I am really looking forward to competing in it.
The Tour Championship in Naples, Florida is equally exciting for me. It usually has a field of 60 players with no cut, sharing a big purse. This year, with all the changes made on Tour, there will be 72 players competing and the spotlight of the event will be on the winner taking home US$1.1mil.
The Tour Championship is a fun event and is a less-stress week for everyone and I’m so excited about being able to experience it myself.
As I said before, I really am looking forward to a strong finish to the campaign.
I am well aware it will not be easy. But even so, there are other things to look forward to, including the venues.
The LPGA Tour events are held at genuine championship golf courses and these last three of the season will be no different. Besides this, we, the players are looked after very well. There is nothing, or very little else, you could ask for if you’re on Tour.
Personally, I am just happy to be part of it, giving it the best shot I can and working to make my country, family and friends proud of the best I can do.
It should be noted that those with Tour cards this year will retain their playing status next season. This has come about by the unfortunate events of Covid-19.
At this stage, I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all my sponsors for their continued and untiring support through these tough times, namely Mazda Malaysia, Top Glove, Jasa Sarjana, Els Club Desaru, J. Lindeberg, Acushnet and several anonymous individuals who have been kind with their support that allows me to live my dream.
Most of these organisations and individuals have been with me since day one. There are those who have just started the journey and I am thankful to them as well, for supporting my ambition to fly the Malaysian flag as proud and as high as I possibly can.
Lastly and by no means least, I want to thank my family, my coach, trainer, friends and fans for all your unconditional love and support. It means everything to me, and it makes me stronger as I endeavour to conquer the obstacles I find along the way.

jumpcutI was looking forward to learning something new about Kelly, but unfortunately I could've written that article for her. Maybe next time you can interview her for your tell-all exclusive article. She was just trying to set the stage on the remaining events for her readership halfway around the world. She did a good job doing that.
