Personally, I'd much rather have a genuine star like Pettersen (or even Kerr) win than some nobody who has never even had a top 20 before. Given all the drama Chella Choi has gone through trying to get a win, I feel like a player should at least contend a few times before hoisting a trophy!
Huh.....so do you feel the same way for Birdie Kim & Hilary Lunke's wins?
This is why we have the terms...underdog, dark horse and lightening in a bottle.
I'd rather see Christine "200 yard avg drive" Song win before a Kerr victory....if Christine should win a LPGA event....so be it...the Golf Gods were shining on her that week and good on her.
Most of the time I would be rooting for the more established player unless I knew that the unknown Korean was a superstar in the making ala Hyo Joo at the Evian or Baek and Chun at the Hana Bank last year (plus I was already longtime fans of those players, so it was cool to see them live up to their potentials)...
But in the case of Birdie, yeah, I was pulling for her. I can't express how annoying I found Morgan Pressel and her entitled attitude (she seems to have improved since then, but I'm still not a fan). Birdie sticking the dagger in her heart with that hole out is one of the greatest sports moments I have ever seen.
