Great start for Mi Hyang Lee, clean score card of eight birdies. I guess the Golf Channel couldn't find her, to show at least one shot. She was playing during their Broadcast window, so no excuse.
Good rounds by Jennifer Song,-6 and Jenny Shin -5.
Good news for In Gee Chun, she had seven birdies, bad news she had four bogeys.
Yui Kawamoto needs to rethink her strategy on par 5s. She made four bogeys on them her last two rounds. Three to miss the cut last Tournament and one on hole eighteen this Tournament. Number eighteen fairway is about thirty yards wide.

I have an off day tomorrow and I'm getting this crazy idea inside my head ...
Unless Getty Images is doing additional uploads tonight, they having nothing on MHL or Stephenson. By the way, I'm pretty sure Mi Hyang's best prior score here was 68.
Fortunately, the local media is on the ball ... first round pics:
The second image in the collection above is a 74-second video which begins with Jenny from The ROK teeing off at #1, while Kelly Tan and AVD are standing by. At 0:29, Xi Yu Lin is waiting to tee off at #1 and I don't see her "mom" there, Mardi Lunn ... maybe she got dumped. That tall, weathered woman standing next to her bag is Audrey something ... I always forget her last name ... she was on Kim Kaufman's bag in 2017. That area of the 1st tee, the 18th green and the 10th looks almost unrecognizable without all the infrastructure. At #1, they're tee off from where the back row of the bleachers would normally be.
*******
Jesus Mozo and MHL ... not sure what green this is ... I'm guessing #16.

Round 1 Surprising day for the big name Sisters. Sung Hyun Park, Inbee and Major winner Mirim Lee are all over par and in danger of missing the cut. In Gee had a nice start, 3 under. A bit too many mistakes, but if she can keep making seven birdies/round, she'll be in good shape. Mi Hyang Lee and Jenny Shin had great starts, and shout out to Jiwon Jeon with her own 3-under 68 to start. Sisters hwaiting!

The crazy thought of driving down there quite early this AM to look over or through a fence (if there are any) was abandoned. But, the thought of going down there early Sunday, getting in some golf in the area, followed by exploring the vicinity of the Seaview might work out.
Normally the driving distance measuring holes are the par-5 3rd and the par-4 13th, but it's different this year. Mi Hyang started at #10 this AM and drove it 238 at #13 ... then her average distance changed to 245 after she played #14, so she must have hit it 252 there. Meanwhile, NASA started at #1 and has no driving stats thru the first six holes.
The pavement outside my window is wet from a green radar blob that passed over the state this AM. However, it missed the Seaview, so rain shouldn't be an issue today. Steady Eddie MHL has no bogeys in her first 24 holes this week. Another tricky green coming at #16 ... if she can handle that one, then she's got two hot birdie chances at the short par-3 17th and the par-5 18th. NASA is now tied for for first at -8 thru seven holes (3 birdies, 2 bogeys).

Woo-hoo, did I call it?! Birdies at #8 & 9 and MHL is back in front at -10. She pitched a perfect game, 27 up and 27 down. UPDATE: She made par at the par-4 1st, now comes the par-4 2nd which Stupples once said was the hardest par-4 on the LPGA tour. After that, she gets a break with good birdie chances on holes 3 thru 5.
Naturally, there are no real-time pics being posted by Getty ... women's golf is nothing in the U.S. Meanwhile, they're staying up late in Japan to check out the early 2nd round pics of Shibuno Fever.
*****
Upon further thought, this not the first year of using the 14th fairway for the drive measuring. They did it the last time I was there ... it makes sense since the 3rd and 13th fairways go in the same direction.

Have you heard of elephant rage? They'll be the nicest, most obedient animals in captivity ... until they flip out, kill their trainer, and run wild into the street. Well, Dumbo busted out of her cage and is rampaging ... four straight birdies on 17, 18. 1 and 2 ... now -8 at T-3 and two shots out of the lead. MHL dodged the land mines at #2 for another par.
I have no problems posting current pics of other players ... but there aren't any.

Okay, somebody finally got out of bed to do their job:
NASA with tour lifer Greg Johnston ... one of many loopers with a KB Star cap ... MHL would burn Mozo if he put one of those on.
The 17th tee is near Route 9 ... wish I could see what kind of fencing they have in this area ... it usually ends around here.
Wow, look where they put that flag at #17 and MHL still knocked in there close. Really strange NOT to see the imitation Waste Management pavilion behind this green. As for the other two players, Captain Kirk is hanging in there at -7 while the Clanton Gang fell back to -2.
Never a doubt about her birdie putt at #17.
Yikes, that lie looks horrible at #18, but maybe not as she made birdie. This is a strange sight without the pavilions and bleachers surrounding the green. I never noticed those huge tree trunks before. That signage behind the 18th green - I assume that's there for advertising and NOT as a backboard, as there is no forced carry over wster on this hole. In June, players usually roll the ball onto the green with their second shot ... I don't know if it plays differently in October.
This pic should be a hot seller ... Laura Davies teeing off at #8 ... currently finished at 119th place ... might not want to dip into her savings anymore for trips to the casinos.
****
Uh oh, MHL's first miscue at #6, but she still leads by one shot at -11. No. 7 is a long, tough par-3, but 8 & 9 are birdie holes. Looks like SJ Smith, Patti T. and Jiwon Jeon all blew themselves out of the tournament. Oh crap, MHL made bogey at #7 ... well, I said it was a tough hole ... stay positive, 8 & 9 are pushovers if you play them properly. NASA is in the house at -11, one shot ahead of MHL. Uh oh, Dumbo got lassoed ... how do you make a six at #8?

1.) MHL is MHL, that is the (lame) excuse GC would offer you.
2,) I don't know how a competent LPGA pro (I would give Yui that much) makes a six at #18 ... did GC show her playing this hole? Yes, it's a wide fairway, plus I saw the Yangster drive her ball off the planet here in 2018 and she still made a five for par. With the pavilions and bleachers out of the way, there's probably more exposed high junk behind the green, but there's no reason to hit the ball deep into this green. However, judging the wind and rollout from the rough takes some skill and experience, as LEXI (trademark) did it beautifully on the 54th hole last year. I don't know what wind conditions Yui had yesterday. She can't blame her looper for inexperience ... whether or not she can communicate with him is another question.

Only about 6200 yards and Ariya 51 also blew herself out of the tournament.
Ugh, "only" a par at #9 for MHL, who finished at -10, one shot back of NASA. I think Hot Stuff Stephenson will have fewer players ahead of her than I thought when she tees off at 1:28 PM.
I must give Big Mouth Bob at PXG credit for J. Song's outfit. I assume the orange specs are her idea and they look good, too. I followed her in 2017 when she fought the course and an insect bite on her wrist to shoot 65 ... no fading away again, right?

What is that cap Annie Park is wearing? I see a pair of lips with teeth showing ... no tough sticking out, so it can't be a Rolling Stones endorsement. There's a word below the lips, but I can't make it out, even after I looked at recent pics on Getty.
******
They showed the tee box of The Road Hole (Foltzy's name for #17) and you could see one or two people standing behind a short fence on Route 9 watching the action. Hmm, that's good to know.
******
I'm not up on Dumbo's gear history, aside from being a Ping player. The Matrix Ozik shaft looks like a change from steel starting in 2020.

Laura Davis need to stop taking that spot from players and shooting +10.. She drug Ariya down with her, who shot 78. I just noticed that Ariya is holding a driver in her LPGA Profile picture. She better learn how to hit it, because her game is going down hill. She can't depend on her iron play and putting to carry her forever. By the way she did not make a birdie, probably first time that happened.

Aigoo, NYC just bogeyed #16 to drop back to +1 ... the cut will almost certainly be at Even. The good news is that she has birdie holes at 17 & 18 to finish up, so there's reason for optimism.
Meanwhile, Esther Lee (68-77) is hitting the road for Aronimink two days early and Unlucky Five (68-75) will be joining her ... needed a three at the closing par-5 9th, but made four.
Woo-hoo, NYC just birdied #17 ... should be a cinch to play the weekend, barring a complete screw-up at #18.
Muni blew it by a shot and there is no invitation for her across the Delaware. Whatever magic she exercised in the Q-series last year is gone.
I assume there is a healthy market for Fassi-cam photos in Mexico.
