Yeah, I'm surprised they are having this tourney, too. You literally would not know it is going on right now unless you watched, like, prolly the Golf Channel (I don't). This tourney has also been held the last few years on Labor day weekend so that adds to the absence of any type of "news" coming out of it.
Now that it's lighter out, I'll tell you, visibility hasn't improved any from yesterday. You can just barely make out the red glowing sun through the smoke and haze. It is better than Monday. I work at the airport in the evenings and they shut it down Monday the smoke was so bad. I don't know how anybody got in and out, let alone to this tourney. We (UPS) could only get our newer 767's in and no feeder/commuter planes were allowed to land.

Well, it rained last night and it is sprinkling at the moment. (I essentially work across the Columbia river from the course so I will say it is raining on the course) It may have cleared things up, but did not cool things off. Presently 65F and very muggy and musty smelling......and dark. Wish I was walking the course right now, I could use the exercise. HaHa Yikes!

OK, well, it's light out now, and still very, very hazy. Smoke is still with us. And it is also still raining, although not very hard. Which is OK, we need the rain, hasn't rained around here in about a month and a half.
Weather radar says the front is coming up from the south and it also looks like it's not going to stop raining all day, so no advantage morning vs. afternoon pairings.

According to the Air QI chart, not only is Portland no longer the worst in the world, it's actually better than Seattle and LA at the moment! It's ranked 18th, with an AQI of 91, which is actually 'Moderate' pollution.
Seattle's at 124 at the moment; still 'unhealthy for sensitive folks', but much better than two days ago. I can actually see the sky! It's cloudy, but hopefully a good rain will clean things up...

My field rating for this tournament is a surprisingly high 55%. That is only a dropoff of 2% from last years 57%. That is a very small drop compared to the first 10 tournaments played this year. The Priority List rating is 61%. The Rolex Rankings rating is 49%. That averages out to the 55%.
Hee Young Park, Jaye Marie Green, and A Lim Kim are no longer part of my rating as they have dropped out of the top 100 of the Rolex Rankings. They have been replaced by Mel Reid, Xiyu Lin, and Katherine Kirk who have moved into the top 100.

Uh oh, watching the stream I'm starting to feel the effects of Shibuno Fever...-4 thru 7.
Maybe it's just indigestion. I'll know better when she finishes her round.
********
Nordqvist is wearing a plain white untucked T-shirt, looks like a Hanes...not even any logos on the front. Tom Abbott would have a field day savagely critiquing the outfit, if he was here.

Good news, after a strong front came through around 3pm, a good breeze came up and for the first time since Labor Day, you can actually see the clouds and patches of blue sky without everything having a red tint from the smoke. If it's like this tomorrow, it'll be clear, but prolly a bit blustery. Rain has stopped, too.

Do you think she takes size XL or XL-Tall?
I will be nice and say that only 50% of the non-Asian heritage LPGAers are total fashion disasters. Meanwhile, I'm checking out the video of Japan's minor minor leagues ... even if 90% of them are broke, they all make an effort to look good, regardless of age and appearance.

She's wearing an overshirt in that photo. Shortly after that pic was taken, she pulled it off and wore a plain white short-sleeve T-shirt the rest of the round.

Round 1 Not a very exciting leaderboard. In Gee had some highlights but wound up only shooting even par. Inbee and Mirim made runs early but both wound up at 2 under, t-23rd. Amy and Chella are the leaders, both three back t-12th at 3 under. Weirdly, last year's champ Hannah Green is tied for the lead at 6 under, and looks who's one back: Yealimi Noh, who finished 2nd last year. Could we be in for a revenge match? Stay tuned! Sisters Hwaiting!

Gabriela Ruffels had a decent round, considering she had 32 putts. She hit fifteen of eighteen greens.
Yui Kawamoto could really help her score if she just make par on the par fives. She made bogey on three of them, but she did make birdie on the other one. Not to worry, she has the talent to turn the year around.
I didn't noticed that Mi Jung Hur hasn't been playing.

Air quality is back to normal in Seattle and Portland!! We had a nice rain last night that washed all the gunk out of the air.

Oh crap, MHL bogeyed #1 (her 10th hole) which puts her two shots off the cut line. but she still has a half-decent chance remaining ... just made par on #2. I'm channeling Tug McGraw now...
Has The Rodent earned a new long-term home? Looks like he is busting his a$$ this week.
Bianca P. moments before going full ape-s@#% on her golf ball.

Mi Hyang had no problem making the cut, she said I got this. She made birdie four of the last five holes.
