Great first day by In Gee Chun. Other than her driving distance, which was in the 230s (though even the bombers were high 250s today), everything seemed to click well: 14/18 greens and still only 27 putts. It was so nice to see her shoot the kind of round that used to happen for her a lot in the old days. She even earned an article on the LPGA site. Go go go Dumbo! A bunch more Sisters had solid starts. They talked about the rough, but it seemed like the bombers were cashing in as usual. Sei Young and Sung Hyun both shot 3 under, for instance, and even Mirim Lee, who has struggled a lot of late, shot a 70. Among the shorter hitters, Mi Hyang Lee also had a 69, while Inky put up a 71 despite just 10/18 GIR and 230 yards off the tee. The one real bummer on day one was Inbee. She, too, was short, but it seems like her long game was just not in sync in general. From what I saw on TV, it looks like she didn't have any major issues, just a lot of minor mistakes here and there. Hopefully she'll get back on track Friday. Sisters hwaiting!!!

I can totally see Sei Young cannonballing into the pond. She is petite but I bet she can displace quite a bit of water.

I imagine Nelly would create barely any splash, but she is looking good to win the golf portion of this event.

I wonder how Kelly made her eagle at 2. I guess we'll never know because GC is too busy showing Fassi flirting with the cutline.

Good job by Larry Bohanon of The Desert Sun regarding Jenny from The ROK's WD:
RANCHO MIRAGE, California — The ANA Inspiration lost its first player during the tournament Thursday when Jenny Shin withdrew after completing six holes of the event in the morning. Shin later posted on Instagram that a rib injury knocked her out of the event.
“I am extremely disappointed with how things turned out, this tournament being one of my favorite events, I felt well prepared for this major and envisioned to pan out much different,” she posted.
********
Has Lexi unveiled the LEXI logo on all her stuff yet? A pic from yesterday shows her wearing her usual Red Bull visor ... it seems highly unlikely that RB will allow itself to get dumped from such a prime position.
********
Typical S.O.B. Getty photographers ... they got Mirim Lee (below), but did they get the player paired with her? I think we know the answer to that.

The LEXI © logo is on the side of her hat, not the front. That giant monstrosity on 18 should be named the LEXI © BACKSTOP, since it was clearly placed there for her benefit. ****** Kelly & In Gee both finished their rounds at -6, currently T4. Wouldn't mind seeing them paired together tomorrow.

All I’m asking for is a simple printed shirt. Express yourself, Brittany Lang. What might happen if they just tried once.

Jessica Korda little sister played really good and putted great. If she comes close to how she played today it will be hard to catch her.
Mirim Lee came on strong with a good front nine and a better back nine. She will have to keep up her great play to get the win.
In Gee started with back to back bogeys but then had one more bogey and four birdies . She is more than likely too far back for the win. Her driving average was good, but she still had too many long approach shots.
You can't count Sei Young Kim out, it just depends on which player shows up. Her game is always attack the course, sometimes that ends up in a win. Then sometimes that type of play lets the win slip away. I hope that she never changes, she will win Majors.
I am sure that they are going to have long par fours and somewhat reachable par fives again. Which gives the longer drivers an advantage. The rough didn't seem to be much of a factor for the stronger players.
It looks like Gabriela Ruffels -5 (USC) and Rose Zhang -4 (Stanford U) will go at it again, this time for low Amateur. However Lei Ye at -1 may crash the Party.

Thompson is in the last group, but Mirim and Nelly don't have to deal with the "Lexi, Lexi, Lexi. Unless some of the Golf Channel crew start chanting it.

What SoYeonFan said. Lowest round of the tournament so far by Mirim Lee.
They did show Kelly Tan - once - making a short putt.
I was surprised Judy Rankin was actually at the course. I thought she was commentating from home.

Getty is quite late with this one, but at least they got MHL. Only 25 putts per day ... it's a small sample, but all her tee-to-green stats coming into this event stink ... she has racked up $105K with just her putter.

Round 2 In Gee was very good again today, she just didn't make quite as many putts as yesterday, and it bit her a little at times. This is the first prolonged chance we've had to see her play this year, and I like what I see. She missed a few greens on the back, but never by more than a few feet, so her 11/18 GIR stat was a bit misleading. Her driving average was 269, basically the same as Korda and Sei Young. Her swing was smooooth, and best of all, she seemed thoroughly at ease all day. It was a blast watching her. She is still very much in this; five back with two rounds to play is very doable, and there's plenty of time for Korda to cool off. Mirim Lee is a big talent who has been almost completely derailed by injuries, but she has fought back and was scintillating today. Her 65 was the round of the first two days. She has the length and now the health to win, but I still worry she's going to have a struggle filled round coming soon, it's been so long since she's been in this position. Sei Young wasn't great today, but she is still in the hunt, now joined by Mi Hyang. Sung Hyun was all over the place, but made enough long putts to make the cut at least. Inbee has been the biggest disappointment so far, and her 'reward' is playing with Fassi tomorrow. Well, maybe that means we'll see her on the coverage. Sisters hwaiting! Let's keep it going!!!
