Not sure how to make sense of this result. The way Sophia Popov played in Marathon Classic and AIG Women's Open; may be she'll win 2020 Player of the Year award. Although, I'm not sure there'll be such an award this year.

This kind of result fascinates me. Why hasn't Popov played like this before? She was absolutely the most confident player in the field. Even she can't answer the question.
She hasn't had a result like this before and based upon my experience of watching the tour, she probably won't again. Who truly believes Pernilla Lindberg will win another major?
That was a sweet par save by Minjee on the Postage Stamp though.

I want to cleanse my palate with some KLPGA action ASAP.

I will add it is a shame for Sophia not to be able to bask in the adulation of a cheering crowd.

I know some people love seeing Cinderella wins, but for me this is really a frustrating result. We finally get a Major in 2020 after eight months, and the winner is someone who couldn't even hold on to her tour card and has never even won on the Symetra Tour. At least Lindberg was an LPGA player when she won. Is Popov the least successful Major winner since Hilary Lunke back in 2003? Maybe. Even Lunke was an LPGA player, I think. Even the luck went her way. If the weather had been terrible I'm betting it wouldn't have been such a walk in the park for her. Oh well, hopefully the next Major will really live up to the name. Both In Gee and Inbee played great today. In Gee had her second sub-70 round of the year, and, believe it or not, made her first top ten in a Major since she won the Evian in 2016. Congrats, so happy for her! Inbee was on fire on the front nine, but when she missed that makeable birdie on -- 9, was it? -- I just had a feeling that she was not going to win. She cooled down after that, but hey, a 66 is great! Great motivation for the next one. And her hubby is now off the hook. Poor Minjee Lee. What does she have to do to get a big one? She played decently, too. Popov now has more Majors than she does. Yeesh. Great job for the Sisters nonetheless. Sisters Hwaiting!

Inbee had 4 straight birdies on the front:
Minjee with a great rescue on eight!

https://www.instagram.com/p/CEPYLCVlgWk Congratulation to Sophia Popov for a great AIG Women's Open win. She didn't luck into the win by failure of others, she earned it. She came through with two late birdies, to all but seal the deal. She took full advantage of her good fortune of getting into the Marathon Classic, By making the top ten to qualify for this Tournament. The rest is History. Great weekend for Momoko Ueda minus seven on the weekend. To get a top six, after the plus eight the first two rounds. Kudos, to Inbee Park for the minus five final round. Edit: Sophia doesn't have to apologize for the win. The other players played under the same weather conditions that she did. They just didn't get the job done like she did. By the way she only missed three greens, with thirty putts. So she didn't putt her way to the Championship.

Popov is no stranger to me ... she's in my report from a 2016 USWO qualifier, where she passed, along with Money Chien. I guess she will party from now until ANA, as she was NOT added to the Walmart/P&G field.

I was curious, so I looked it up: the last time In Gee had back-to-back top tens was in late 2017, when she followed a third place at the Hana Bank with a 9th at the Sime Darby. Hard to believe she has been in the weeds that long. I hope this is a good sign for her!

Her driving distance was still in 230-240 range when she played her last 4 tournaments in the US; but it switched to respectable numbers once she landed in Scotland. Links courses are well known for ball rolling out on the ground; we need to see her driving distance this coming week.

Too big to fail Thompson in another hot spot with the rules.
She benefited from the carefully chosen words and headlines of her industrial complex enablers.

I wont beat this subject to dealt, but that was a life changing win for Sophia Popov. She may not get another win, but she will have plenty of chances to try. That may have been her only shot, so she grabbed it. I for one am glad to see a person that hung in there and believed in themselves. Get rewarded for all the work they put in to get an LPGA Card.
I don't feel bad for Minjee Lee because she is what twenty three or twenty four. She is going to win a Major, maybe several Majors. She is just that good of a Golfer, Besides she already had a better Career than many Golfers had in their entire LPGA Career.

Too big to fail Thompson in another hot spot with the rules. She benefited from the carefully chosen words and headlines of her industrial complex enablers. The R&A ruled no penalty because she ultimately didn't improve her lie, despite Lexi's best attempt to do so. The grass sprang back into place after she tamped it down in back of her ball. So even though she clearly cheated, there was no penalty because her inept attempt was unsuccessful. This is like a bank robber not getting arrested because he didn't get any cash when he robbed the bank. The GIC is odious.
