Final Day
KLPGA defends 10.5 - 7.5A great day of singles matches, but in the end, the LPGA was only able to break even with the KLPGA, and the KLPGA, on the back of their team score lead, won the crown for the second year in a row. What seems clear is that the LPGA is going to need to figure out how to stop the KLPGA's top guns more often. Whereas the LPGA stars lose regularly (no LPGA star won twice other than Hyo Joo this year), the KLPGA seems to reliably get wins from their big names. Then they just needed one or two upsets from their lesser lights to claim the crown. Would the LPGA have won if they had Danielle Kang, Minjee Lee and Lydia Ko on their team like last year? Interestingly, all three of those women are in the top three across the pond at the Marathon right now. But they didn't help much last year, so the answer is probably 'no'. Anyways, congrats to the KLPGA team for another win. Can't call it a shocker anymore, can we? Weirdly, I can only find a handful of photos of the singles matches on line. No idea why they are not around! In any event, some quick thoughts: Match 1: Ji Hyun Oh destroys Jiyai Shin 5 & 4.Things didn't start well for the LPGA when their captain was destroyed by Ji Hyun Oh in the most lopsided win of the day. https://www.instagram.com/p/CDqazPAFcDA Match 2: Na Yeon Choi AS So Mi Lee
NYC surprised with a square against Lee. Match 3: Ha Neul Kim 1 up over Ye Rim ChoiNice win by JLPGA star Ha Neul Kim. Could the LPGA make the comeback? Match 4: Hae Ran Ryu 4 & 3 over MJ HurRyu continued her domination with a smashing win over the veteran Hur. Match 5: Hyo Joo Kim 1 up over Min Ji ParkHyo Joo got the win, but she had to work hard for it. Match 6: Min Young Lee 2 & 1 over Da Yeon Lee
Match 7: Mi Hyang Lee AS Ji Young Kim
Match 8: Hyun Kyung Park 1 up over Bo Mee Lee It looked like Bo Mee might steal one, but Hyun Kyung Park got the win she was expected to get. (yup, Bo Mee used her actor-husband Hwan Lee as her caddie!) Match 9: Hee Jeong Lim 2 & 1 over Jeongeun Lee6The LPGA needed Hot 6 to win badly, but Lim wouldn't have it. Match 10: Eun Hee Ji AS So Young Lee
Match 11: So Yeon Ryu 3 & 1 over Hye Jin ChoiBig win for So Yeon, but it was too little, too late. Match 12: Seon Woo Bae AS A Lim KimIt looked like Bae would get this win, too, but Kim held firm.

Great win again for the young KLPGA Team.
A nice win for Hee Jeong Lee against a great golfer Jeong Eun Lee6. A match that I hoped would end in a tie.
So Yeon Ryu started strong, so/so in the middle and finished strong. This is the start of a string of Match-Play victories.
Jo Yoo Kim didn't work that hard she just made a ton of putts. I don't think she hit half the greens. Min Ji Park clearly played better but missed two or three short putts.

Either of these teams would destroy any American "Solheim Cup" squad IMO. So true. And in the now so international world of the LPGA, Solheim really is pretty irrelevant. Wish US media would push the UL Crown more - that's the future of international competition. I'm not even trying to be nasty here. I looked at the last US Solheim Cup team and counted three major wins among them, and one of them is from thirteen years ago. Even if you were to take away Inbee's whole resume, the Inbee team would still dwarf the Americans. And they can't even beat the KLPGA!!! I used to wish for an All-Korea vs All-US team match but that idea becomes more unrealistic and more inappropriate with each passing day. US vs Europe is now a perfectly apt rivalry IMO.

It's interesting, though, how many of the LPGA team is over 30. More than half I think: Inbee, NYC, Bo Mee, Ha Neul, So Yeon, Eun Hee, MJ Hur, Jiyai Shin, and I'm not sure how old Min Young Lee is. Their youngest player this year is Lee 6, who is 24.
The KLPGA have no players older than 30 and at least three players 20 or younger.

And they can't even beat the KLPGA!!! What's the incentive for LPGA to beat KLPGA? Money, prestige or pride; the answer is none of the above.

Ji Hyun Oh got the KLPGA started with the big win over Jyai Shin. Just like Jiyai Shin got the KLPGA started at the Queens with a 7&6 win over Shi Ho Oyama. However they wont have to worry about a format change like the JLPGA did the next year

Except for Hye Jin Choi, I haven't seen much interest in the other KLPGA players. Since they changed the Q-Series for players that qualify for the LPGA. Even if they win the Q-Series their Priority will be so low. That they probably couldn't get into all the Tournaments. The JLPGA would be a better option, it's closer and they would be treated better. However the KLPGA is growing so that could give them incentive to remain there.

Why is there more Pride and Prestige beating a European Team with two players in top thirty. Than competing against a Korean Team with twelve players in the top thirty. I kind of know why without having to say it.
Now if the reason was Tradition, that's a good answer. No other answer make any sense to me.

JY Shin looked washed up ... she needs to get back to Japan ASAP.
********
I started watching the broadcast of the singles round, then fell asleep right away. I awoke around 2:15 AM and the replay had started. So I'm watching, watching, watching for over an hour and they're showing just about every match EXCEPT the one with MHL. Went back to sleep, woke up again and finally they got around to Mi Hyang, who nailed a right-to-left breaker on #18 and halved her match against JY Kim 2.

The reason is million of people either pay to attend or watch it on TV. It makes millions and millions of dollars for LPGA and PING.

No, tradition is a wrong reason. The reason is million of people either pay to attend or watch it on TV. It makes millions and millions of dollars for LPGA and PING. So I guess the bottom line is that it's all about the money. That a good reason to play it. Then why pretend it's for Pride and Prestige.
