I hope nobody is holding their breath for this event showing up on US TV. Golf Channel's Ol' Randall just found out about it today and, lest there be any remaining doubt, helpfully informs us that " South Korea’s SBS television network will televise the championship."Thanks Randall, a vast swath of the U.S. gets SBS on their cable systems or over the air ... NOT!!!! I agree it would be a progressively good idea for the KLPGA put their product on YouTube for the world to see at least once. However, take a look at the tournament summary on the KLPGA website. The Media Info section says SBS Golf, NAVER, Daum, alleh tv and u+ ... a lot of entities with skin in the game who don't want their investment diluted by a freebie outlet. Meanwhile, the GC drones have scheduled Wed. 8 PM EST with a celebration of the PGA Championship, followed by a musty replay of the 1974 PGA Championship at 9 PM. A more artistic version of this event was documented by NFL Films ... here's the first of twelve parts accompanied by The Voice of God (aka John Facenda): It was played at some place called Tanglewood (NC), which was never heard from again. A sample from Dan Jenkins' article: It was the third tournament of the year in North Carolina, Greensboro and Kemper having come before, and there will be still one more, the World Open at Pinehurst next month. This must add up to some kind of record for a "brown bag" state, which also insists that a visitor order a cheese sandwich in a bar or else he can't buy wine.vault.si.com/vault/1974/08/19/he-left-them-laughing

True, but the LET has been streaming live golf on YouTube for years and simply geoblocking the countries that bought rights...including in the US, where GC may or may not show LET events on a 4-day delay in the middle of the following week. But this is all beating a dead horse. The only hope is for some enterprising Korean fan to put up a quality pirate stream and hope the rightsholders look the other way.

3.0 billion won is an INSANE purse for a KLPGA event. If they were doing this like they normally do, the winner would get 20 - 25% of that purse, which would be 600 million won at least. For perspective, a player could earn half as much in one week as the all time top season money total for any player.
Of course, they have announced that the top prize is only 220 million. Which is interesting in itself; I suspect they are trying to spread the wealth to help out the players who have been going without a steady stream of income this year. Of course, you still have to make the cut to indulge in the filthy lucre.

Also, it's kinda surprising that they aren't having Shin Ae Ahn in the field. Her win at this event in 2015 was her last big win anywhere in the world, and she is always good for drawing eyes to any tournament. I wonder if she's winding down her career now?

Yes, I was curious why Shin Ae Ahn was not in the field. I was expecting her Career to really take off after that win. I know her putting needed improvement, but I figured that she could fix it. She just seemed so talented.

I hope Jim Nance and "Sir Nick" Faldo are brushing up on their Korean pronunciation. Nance always sounds like he's falling asleep at the Masters...I can only imagine how he'll get through play-by-play from his bedroom at 3am.

This sounds more like a Bill Macatee/Dottie Pepper job (and probably Meesh as well) from their living rooms, and more likely will be shunted to the CBS Sports Network on cable since each day starts in prime time here. Hopefully Grace Park will record a preview of each day from on site and/or put in an appearance during the telecast, assuming that this actually happens.Kevin

Oh My God, if this happens it would be incredible. Presumably it would be on tape delay and probably just the weekend, but my biggest issue with watching now is I just can't get myself to stay up that late every day. If I can get it on Tivo I'm good to go.
Plus it would be a joy to watch the US broadcasters struggle with meaningful commentary about Korean golfers, almost none of whom they'd even heard of before.

Every player will earn an official money "Defending champion Choi Hye-jin (21) took 20 million won last year, 20% of the total prize pool of 1 billion won. This year, the total prize money has tripled from last year, but it will receive 202 million won, which is 7.3%, not 20% of 3 billion. Athletes who ranked 150th also receive 624,6667 won." Earnings

The betting odds for the tournament. Interesting that Sei Young and Six have better odds than Sung Hyun Park.
I'm thinking Jeong Min 'Cecilia' Cho is a good bet at 50 to 1... (Interesting that you have to click on the link to see all the odds... she doesn't appear on the part displayed here).

Also, does anyone know if the Rolex Rankings will be unfrozen this week? Or will this be a "forgotten" event in terms of world rankings?

Also, does anyone know if the Rolex Rankings will be unfrozen this week? Or will this be a "forgotten" event in terms of world rankings? I haven't seen any new Rolex announcements; but they can't disregard this and any upcoming KLPGA events. What makes sense is to unfreeze players who play this week; but leaving all others unchanged.
