All that prior prep and The EMP is +4 thru eleven holes. Must have been nerves. She settled down and parred her final 9 holes. Still, disappointing after the big media ( and my SS!) build-up. It's gotta be tough representing the hopes & dreams of an entire country. Still a chance to make the weekend. ******** But hey...Shibuno Fever is back!

I was half listening but I think Paige Mackenzie just admitted to violating open container law.

Not a lot to talk about first round and hard to tell what will happen on the Course change.
Anyway great start for A Lim Kim.
Sei Young Kim really came back from a bad start. A Quad on eleven her second hole and bogey on twelve. But she bounced back on the back nine with five birdies and two bogeys.
Hee Jeong Lim ball striking was great on the front nine. But didn't get rewarded with a birdie. So I figured that she would have a pretty good round anyway. The next time they showed her, I was surprised that she was six over par. The back nine she went into a bad spell with a double bogey, bogey, par, bogey, double bogey. She seem to lose concentration sometimes when things go wrong and play faster. She just need to shoot at least two or three under to play the weekend.

Anyone know exactly what happened with SY Kim and that quad bogey?
I think I'm more impressed by the comeback than if she'd had an uneventful +1 day. I still really like her chances to win this. I think the other course will suit her better.

Someone on twitter showed a screen cap of the shot-by-shot summary of Sei Young Kim's quad. Obviously the data is nonsense, but I can't find that shot breakdown anywhere on the USGA website. Does anyone know if that is actually available? Is this on the website? The mobile app? Is there a mobile app?

Round 1
Mediocre but not terrible start for the Sisters. With so many in the field, I was hoping for a few more to get off to a great start.
The best came from A Lim Kim, who shot 3 under, 1 back. Looking at the leaderboard, it really seems like long hitting is unfortunately going to be at a premium this week. A Lim is often the longest on the KLPGA, and despite a poor year on the KLPGA, she is in the hunt here.
The only other Sisters under par were Hye Jin Choi and Sung Hyun Park, two more long hitters.
Inbee did not get off to a great start, but finished with two birdies to get back to even. So Yeon Ryu had the opposite form: pretty good most of the day, but two late bogies put her at +1.
Jin Young and 6 both at 2 over, still only 6 back. Sei Young Kim had an amazing comeback, climbing from +4 back to +1. Hae Ran Ryu was at 2 under until a double bogey-bogey on 16 and 17.
Mirim is around the cut line. It would be nice to see her make the cut, I don't think she has since her win at ANA?
In Gee +5. Yeesh. Better luck next year!
Not too surprised about Hee Jeong Lim at +6 and Seung Yeon Lee at +7. They've both been mired in slumps lately.
Sisters hwaiting!!!

Looking at the layout of 11 on jackrabbit, I imagine Kim must have hit it into the water on the right side off the tee.. maybe more than once. Seems more likely than so many poor shots.

Jackie Burk fun fact. He was born in Texas but his parents and siblings were Minnesotans. In the Winter Jackie Sr. would be in Texas but he was the golf pro at St. Paul Town and Country in MN during the summer. Jackie Sr. won 4 State Opens in Minnesota and one in Texas.

Seung Yeon Lee should never be put in the same category with Hee Jeong Lim. Slump or no Slump Hee Jeong Lim is head and should better than Seung Yeon Lee.
Seung Yeon Lee misses cuts. Hee Jeong Lim doesn't miss cuts even when her game is off. I remember only maybe one or two times she shot over seventy five. She is young and sometimes loses concentration, her only flaw. She will prove how great that she is when she finishes 2021 at the top of the KLPGA Tour.

If you can make a golfer that works their way around a course like Inbee. I know people like to just say that she is a great putter. There are more Talented golfers than Inbee but doesn't come close to her Golf IQ. Now combine that with Sei Young Kim skill and aggressive style. You will have the perfect golfer.

This is a bit off topic but neither Jin Young Ko or Sophie Popov got sponsor invites to the CME. They went to Natalie Gulbis and Sarah Kemp
They will now have to earn their way in with a high finish at this week's open.
Popov will need a 14th place finish...and Ko will need to finish in the top 4.
What a waste of picks...this is unexplainable to me.

Lots of doom and gloom about Friday's weather from these broadcasters ... I took a look at Accuweather.com. Almost all the turtles should be off the course by the time the t-storms hit at 3 PM. There is a 50% chance of precip. from 1 to 3 PM with max wind gusts of 13 MPH ... fortunately, MHL goes out at 8:33 AM and should get hit with only 30 minutes or less of the yucky stuff.
*****
I count only four LPGA victories among the top-11 eleven players on the first round leaderboard. I'm not buying Olson and A Lim Kim ... I think Moriya and Shibuno can set the pace Friday, unless someone in the back of the pack goes crazy low ... like tour mudder BadA$$.
******
Mamiko (+2) is still in it ... Furue (+5), not so much
