Still nothing but radio silence over KPMG ... that's only four weeks away, folks. The good news is that the PGA senior tour is allowing spectators in South Dakota this week:
Temperature checks, masks, sanitizer stations, extra roping ... steps that are quite reasonable ... steps that we are taking in our normal daily activities NOW. I like this quote:
“We’re on 250 acres. Spacing people on 250 acres is like 12 people inside a Super Wal-Mart,” Cavner said.

As expected here in CYA country, they announced no fans for the KPMG ... the LPGA doesn't even bother to mention stuff like this on its website anymore. I had time off planned for that week ... too bad I don't know any of the blue bloods living along the southeast corner of the course who can watch one or two holes from their backyards. As for ShopRite, there's a good spot on Route 9 to watch 16th green and the short par-3 17th hole ... they'd probably shoo people away. Which reminds me ... will they erect blue walls at the Seaview behind the 17th and 18th greens to replace the unneeded fan pavilions?

Many TV series you know and love, including the North American adaptation of the Korean drama The Good Doctor, are actually filmed in and around Vancouver, BC but had to pause filming their new seasons just as they were ramping production back up due to a shortage of testing supplies. This as concerns grow about a second COVID-19 wave across Canada.www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/tv-film-production-vancouver-pandemic-1.5744908Kevin

This week's CJ Cup is being contested in Las Vegas rather than Jeju due COVID-19 travel restrictions.

It looks like Inbee won't get a chance to defend until at least 2022, as the entire "Summer of Golf" in Australia takes a major hit:

With the sporting calendar in disarray the AFL and NRL soldiered on and will be playing their championship matches this weekend.
The details:
Geelong and Richmond square off in Aussie Rules' showcase event Saturday at 7:30pm local (4:30am EDT) in Brisbane on FS1. It marks the first time that A) the Grand Final will be held outside of Melbourne and B) will be contested at night. The former is due to the late winter spike in COVID-19 cases in greater Melbourne, which forced the AFL to stage the rest of the season largely in Queensland; the latter is to maximize TV ratings since in person attendance at the match has been capped at 30,000.
Penrith and Melbourne will contest the National Rugby League Grand Final at the Olympic Stadium in Sydney, also with reduced in person attendance, on Sunday at 7pm (4am EDT) on FS1.www.msn.com/en-us/sports/more-sports/a-means-to-an-end-afl-nrl-play-title-matches-in-australia/ar-BB1ah1Yl?ocid=msedgdhpKevin

Already the most stressful day in a teenage Korean's life, the College Scholastic Ability Test, which most students begin preparing for at an early age because that one day determines how the rest of their lives will unfold, will be conducted nationwide on Thursday under the current Level 2 social distancing restrictions as new infections across South Korea have been averaging over 500 a day for the better part of a week now. Fun times these are not.

No surprise for us folks in the Northeast ... the 2021 winter traveling golf show has been cancelled:
I went to the last one in late Feb. 2020 in Edison, NJ. All hell was just starting to break loose at this time (before masks and hand sanitizer) ... after some thought, I said, "screw it, I'm going." I really wanted new shoes and a cheap vintage 460 driver and I got them! There's nothing urgent I need now, so I can live without the show in 2021. They have a skeleton sked posted for 2022 with cities and venues, but no dates yet. Folks, get your vax shots when they become available, so the pain in the azz naysayers can get out of our lives.

Hopes for Tokyo’s Summer Olympics Darkenwww.nytimes.com/2021/01/15/sports/olympics/tokyo-olympics.htmlThe Olympic rings in Tokyo this week.Credit...Kim Kyung-Hoon/Reuters
Plans for the postponed Tokyo Olympic Games are growing more uncertain by the day.
As coronavirus cases rise throughout Japan and in several large countries in Europe and the Americas, officials both in Tokyo and with the International Olympic Committee have begun to acknowledge that holding a safe Games might not be possible, endangering dreams that the Olympics could serve as a global celebration of the end of the pandemic.
Instead, the I.O.C. may be forced to cancel the Olympics for the first time since World War II. That would be a huge financial blow to both the Olympic organization and Japan, which has spent more than $12 billion building stadiums and improving its infrastructure to prepare for the Games, and billions more to delay the event by a year... The rollout of the vaccines has been slower than expected, however, and much of humanity will remain unvaccinated by this summer. Japan does not plan to begin vaccinating its citizens until late February, a process that will take months.

Per the article above, IOC and Japan says HELL, NO regarding any reports about cancelling the Olympics. I'm inclined to agree ... they'll probably have draconian screening of everyone arriving there, limited attendance, extreme germophobic cleaning, etc.

Maybe. Apparently the drop dead date for a decision is in late March, same as last year. Recall that last year the IOC and Japan government swore up and down that the Olympics would be played as scheduled...until it wasn't. The Times of London has a pretty good reputation. I'm sure their source is impeccable.

I can't see why this can't be staged. I mean, they've figured out a way to stage pretty much any sport you can think of throughout the world during the pandemic. Once you assume there will be no fans or opening/closing ceremony, the biggest issue is having all those athletes at the village at one time. Why not just extend the Olympics out to six weeks, and have fewer athletes in the village at any one time?
The main motivator will be money. If they feel the TV broadcast rights will pay for this, they'll be highly motivated to make it happen.
